Freeride ■ Ride higher up the walls by adjusting the line down the pipe and using a pumping motion.
■ Grab the board on a variety of ways on both walls.
BUMPS ■ Student objective: To be able to improve overall pressure control and transitions from one turn to the next in the bumps.
■ Student profile: Te student can turn on groomed blue terrain and is learning short-radius turns, but lacks sequential movements from the lead to the rear foot.
■ Tese students ride like this: Tey have not put enough attention on foot-to-foot movements and inconsistently apply active pressure to the board through the shape of the turn.
■ Tey would like to ride like this: Tese students would like to make fluid turns while maintaining control on a mogul run.
■ What: Te students want to learn how to sequence leg movements and control pressure through turn shape.
■ Where: Start with gentle groomers, then progress to small rises and drops on the side of a run; then a blue run; and lastly onto an easy bump run. ■ How: Practice the following exercises with your students.
Static ■ Perform ollies in a “tunnel” by getting low and forward, then slide the board under body, followed by an extension of the rear leg to load the tail and finish with a retraction of the lead leg, followed closely by the rear leg. ■ Stomp down and absorb the impact of the landing.
