Freeride ■ In a sideslip, count to five and then point the board down the hill for a count
of three; then return the board to be perpendicular to the fall line for another count of five.
■ Ride across the whole trail and then back across the trail with the trailing leg in front.
TWO-FOOTED DIRECTIONAL RIDING (GARLAND AND C-TURN) ■ Student objective: To be able to steer the board into and out of the fall line, and be able to change edges in the fall line.
■ Student profile: Te student is comfortable having both feet strapped in and is able to successfully maneuver themselves around using a falling leaf or traverse.
■ Tese students ride like this: Students at this stage don’t have the ability to control the board in and out of the fall line. Tey are able to use one edge at a time to make their way down the hill and around traffic, moving back and forth across the hill. Tey do not yet have the ability to change edges unless they sit down and roll over.
■ Tey would like to ride like this: Tese students would like to have the ability to use their front leg to steer the board down the hill and then steer it back out of the fall line. Eventually, they would like to have the ability to steer the board into the fall line, then change edges coming back across the fall line on the opposing edge.
■ What: Learn to do garlands (steering the board into and out of the fall line) and C-turns (steering the board into the fall line and changing edges, coming out on the opposing edge).
