On October 7, 2010 at his home in Chantilly, Virginia. He is survived by his son, Darren Triplett of Atlanta, Georgia; former wife,Sylvia Carlson of Front Royal, Virginia; his six brothers and sisters,Connie Maneman of Storm Lake, Iowa; Trent Triplett of Dayton, Ohio; Peggy O’Connor of Peoria, Arizona; Wilbur Triplett (Karen) of Storm Lake,Iowa; Ward Triplett of Peoria, Arizona and Steve Triplett (Jane) of Iowa City,Iowa. He was born in Rockwell City, Iowa to Bernard and Pearl Triplett in 1939. He graduated from Saint Columbkille High School in Varina, Iowa and served in the Air Force for four years.Following his service he spent the next 34 years at the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. In retirement, he spent the final years of his life meeting his friends for coffee every morning, rooting for the Virginia Tech Hokies and bragging about the mundane events of his son’slife. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 18 from 1to3p.m. at the Everly Funeral Home,10565 Main Street, Fairfax, Vir- ginia 22030. DOTY Colonel MINTER LOWTHER WILSON, JR., U.S.Army (Ret.)


Colonel Minter Lowther Wilson, Jr., U.S. Army, Retired, age 84, formerly of Arlington, VA,passed away on July 5, 2010, in Dunbar,WV. Born August 19, 1925, Minter was the son of the late Judge Minter Lowther Wilson and Mary Mildred Friend Wilson of Morgantown, WV.Hewas preceded in death by his brother Thomas E. Wilson, and by his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Helen Hope Sauerwein Wilson, also of Morgantown.


Minter graduated in 1946 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He received amaster's degree in journalism from the University of Wis- consin. He was also agraduate of the Command and General Staff College, the Army WarCollege and the NATO Defense College. On promotion to colonel in 1968, he took command of the First Brigade, 1st Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX. He proudly served his country as an Infantry and Armor officer during twenty-six years of military service which spanned the globe. His overseas assignments included occupation duty in Germany following World WarII(1947-50), Taiwan (1953- 55), Vietnam (1963-64), Rome, Italy (1969) and Belgium (1969-72) wherehewas Chief of Public Information, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). His decorations include two Legions of Merit and two Army Commendation Medals.


After retiring from active duty,heworked for sixteen years at The Retired Officers Association (TROA) as Director of Communications and Editor of The Retired Officer Magazine. In 1979, as editor of anon-profit publication, he was honored by the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge "for outstanding achievement in bringing about abetter understanding of the American way of life."

He volunteered in industry organizations research- ing energy saving implications and technical advan- tages in design for large-scale combined heating, cooling, and power systems in college campuses and cities. In Riderwood Village he has been active in the Woodcrafters.


Mr.Phillips is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Jane Phillips, his two sons by Ethel Catherine Lynch, James WoodwardPhillips (Constance) and Stephen Thomas Phillips (Ann); his four grandsons AndrewWoodwardPhillips (Laura), Matthew James Phillips (Jennifer), Thomas John Phillips (Shanna), Michael Lynch Phillips (Angela); his eleven great grandchildren, Jordan, Isaac, Reed, Danielle, Alyssa, Nicholas, Maya, Kathryn, Zachary,Lola, Aubrey, and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was married for 41 years to Ethel Catherine Lynch who predeceased him on October 18, 1981.


CLINTON WOODWARD PHILLIPS (Age 91)


On Wednesday,October 13, 2010, Clinton WoodwardPhillips, of Riderwood Village, Silver Spring, MD died at Riderwood’sRenaissance Gar- dens, Silver Spring MD. Mr.Phillips was born in Washington, D.C. on April 24, 1919. As ateen, he was aleader at Boy Scout Camp Roosevelt and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. In his career,he was amechanical engineer at the National Bureau of Standards (now NIST) specializing in standards for mechanical systems in buildings. He served as the Society President of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) for1982-83. In retire- ment, he had an engineering consultant business.


On Friday,October 22, 2010, visitation will be held from 6to8p.m.atHINES RINALDI FUNERAL HOME, INC., 11800 New HampshireAvenue, Silver Spring MD. GERALDW.HATTON On September 27, 2010 at the age of 88. Mr.Hatton (“Jerry”), adisabled World WarIIveteran, defended his nation in the Pacific Theater in Okinawa, Japan. After his honorable discharge in 1946,


he served his nation in federal government, earning awards during his career at the General Services Administration. After retirement, he served his community as Hatton TaxService. Mr.Hatton was alifelong member of First Baptist Church, Georgetown. He had been a Trustee and aDeacon of the Church, and used his accounting background to serve as its Treasurer from 1974 until 2004. Survivors include his wife of 60 years,Etta J. Hatton; his daughters,June Hatton Barr (Timothy) and Geraldine Hatton Edmonds (Mil- ton); grandsons,Timothy Randolph Barr and Gerald William Edmonds; and one sister-in-law Rosa J. Rhodes.The family deeply appreciates the many expressions of sympathy received to honor the memory of Mr.Gerald W. Hatton.


He believed in finding and encouraging the good in all people. He avidly pursued knowledge and helped others to do the same. His life reflected his watch words of service, faith and optimism. Special interests included travel, photography,golf, skiing, and racquet sports, bridge, and service to church and community.Hewas athirty-five year member and aPresbyterian elder of Church of the Covenant in Arlington, VA.


Along with his wife, Hope, he nurtured friendships established over alifetime throughout the world. Minter is survived by his four children and their spouses, Mary W. and Joe Caldwell of Dunbar,WV, Barbara Ann Blankenship of Fayetteville, WV,Karen L. and TomWiese of Dallas, TX, and Stephen D. Wilson of Dallas, TX; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Minter is also survived by his brother Michael F. Wilson, MD, of Buffalo, NY,sister JoAn Keadle of Pittsburgh, PA,and many nieces and nephews.


Amemorial service for Minter will be held at The Church of the Covenant, 2666 Military Road, Arlington, VA 22207, on Sunday,October 31, 2010 at 3p.m. Interment for Minter and Hope in Arlington National Cemetery will be on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 3p.m. (arrive at the Cemetery Visitor Center no later than 2:30 p.m.).

JILL ELIZABETH McGREGOR(Age 49) Passed away October 14, 2010 in Reston, VA after acourageous battle with breast cancer.Born in Red Bank, NJ,she grew up on Moon Lake in Iron Mountain, MI where she became an outstanding water skier and later an accomplished snow skier.After graduating from Arizona State University with adegree in Business in 1984, she managed her mother’scongres- sional campaign. In 1987, she founded Capitol Services,Inc.with her sisters,Katy McGregor Gaietto and SaraMcGregor and became the CEO and President. Public School System. Lois Dyer was the wife of the late J. Francis Dyer,M.D.She is survived by her loving daughters,Lois and Joan .She is also survived by two of her eight siblings,Clift Mathews and Jean Mathews; her devoted nephew Ralston Mathews; niece Nailah Mathews Bolton; other relatives and friends. Her daughters extend their appreciation to the terrific staff of the Washington Home for the wonderful care they gave their Mother during her time there. Lois’ smile was electric,her grace and dignity could calm any situation and her feistiness was her charm.
