Died in the home he shared with his wife, Yoko,inSpringfield, Virginia, on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. George was born in Seat- tle,Washington, the youngest of Tamano and Shinjiro Morita’ssix children. During WWII, George was relocated along with his mother and sister Margaret to the Minidoka WarRelocation Center in Jerome County, Idaho.Upon release from Minidoka, George moved with his mother and sister several times before the family settled in Chicago, Illinois,where he met and married Yoko Arakawa. George joined the Marine Corps in May 1951, and later joined the Marine Corps Reserve,retiring in 1991 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His civilian career began with the Cook County Sheriff’sOffice, after which he served as aSpecial Agent in the U.S. Customs Bureau from 1969 to 1987. After retiring from the U.S. Customs Bureau, George took aposition with the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center, putting off full retirement until 2007. He will be especially remembered by his family for his devotion to his 3children and 5grandchildren, and his love and care of all his pets from Mickey to Dakota. His friends and colleagues will remember him for his professionalism, dedication to law enforcement and his quick wit and sense of humor. George is survived and missed by his wife of over 50 years,Yoko Morita, his 3 children -Susan, Dave and Karen Morita, their spouses and children, his brother Roy, 2sisters -Margaret Hiratsuka and Aya Ishizuka, and their families.George was preceded in death by both his parents and his brothers Bill and Jim Morita. Alongtime resident of Panama City,Florida, passed away thereonSeptember 11, 2010, at age 88.


Born October 8, 1921, in Clairton, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Reams moved to Washington, DC, in 1940 and began an association with the Department of State and the U.S. Foreign Service that made her awitness to some of the most important events and personalities of postwar history.She accompanied Secretary of State James F. Byrnes to the August 1945 Potsdam Conference and the June 1946 Paris Peace Conference, and she was the last living member of the personal staff of General of the Army George C. Marshall during his tenureasSecretary of State.


December 1947, she married Foreign Service Officer Robert Borden Reams, with whom she had served in the Secretary’soffice and the Executive Secretariat, and they weresoon assigned to Belgrade, Yugoslavia, whereher husband served as counselor of embassy and whereher fluent Serbo-Croatian proved an invaluable asset. Over the following 15 years, she and her husband also served in Switzerland, India, Syria, and lastly the

Ivory Coast, wherehewas the U.S. ambassador. During their retirement years in Reno, Nevada, and Panama City,she was an active civic and community leader.She was also an avid golfer, with credit for ahole-in-one during her service in Calcutta, India, and she maintained her Foreign Service reputation as an exceptionally warm and generous hostess.


After 46 years of marriage, Mrs. Reams lost her beloved husband on March 26, 1994. She was also predeceased by her parents, Krsto and Danica Yovich, by her brother Michael, and by her sisters Helen, Irene, and Desanka. She is survived by her children, Peter Reams, Mirjana Reams, and Kathryn Berla; as well as by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Father,Athlete,Soldier and Patriot died on September 30, 2010 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife,Elaine Morton Casey Murphy; seven children, 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Aveteran of World WarII, serving in India-Burma campaigns,and also of the Vietnam War, as Commander of II Force Field Artillery Command, MG Murphy retired in 1975 after 31 years of service as aField Artillery officer.During his long and distinguished career,hewas assigned to both Field and Air Defense Artillery commands,and in the latter years of his career,hewas Commanding General, United States Army Air Defense Command, at Ent Air Force Base,Colorado.General Murphy is well- known in collegiate athletics as former Director of Athletics for the US Military Academy at West Point twice (’63-’66 and ’77-’80). His endeavors as acollege athlete earned him the Army Athletic Associa- tion Trophy in 1942, and induction into the Army Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. He grew up in Arlington, VA the son of Leonard Band Margaret R. Roland. He was pre-deceased by his sister Margaret E. Ford. Bob was agraduate of Washington Lee HS in Arlington and enlisted in the Army in 1943 where he qualified for and served asamember of the Army Specialized Training Program. Upon his discharge Bob was in the first class of WW II veterans to attend Michigan State University under the new GI Bill, graduating from the School of Business Administration. He was amember of Sigma Chi Fraternity. His business career spanned 40 years having worked with the Central Intelligence Agency, The General Electric Co.and as Vice President for Finance and Administration of Vega Preci- sion Laboratories in Vienna, VA.Bob retired from Vega Labs in 1987 and moved to Carolina Shores,NCin1988. He married Jeanne A. Warner of Fargo,NDonSeptember 25, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. Aretired associate professor of finance with the George Washington University’sSchool of Busi- ness, died of lung cancer October 13, 2010 at the Montgomery Hospice Casey House in Rockville, Maryland.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus Sachlis, and Ruby Flack Sachlis.


Dr.Sachlis joined the faculty of George Washington University’sSchool of Government and Business Administration as an assistant professor of finance in 1975. He was amember of the business honorary Beta Gamma Sigma.Amuch beloved and award-winning teacher,Dr. Sachlis was well known for his very casual style of dress and often was seen on campus sporting aplaid coat and aGreek sailor cap reflecting his Greek heritage. He was arigorous and quantitative teacher who integrated various functions of business in his finance lectures. He published professional and academic articles applicable to finance, real estate and banking during his professorial career.Hewas best known for the development of aFortran- based program and book ElFinBk first published in 1995 applicable to abusiness finance simulation. Dr.Sachlis was promoted to associate professor of finance in 1980 and was awarded associate professor emeritus of finance upon his retirement


in 2007 after 32 years of outstanding service to GWU.


Dr.Sachlis was born in Washington, DC, January 4, 1942 and lived most of his life in the region. He graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in 1960. He attended the University of Maryland wherehegraduated with three degrees including aB.S in accounting in 1964, aM.B.A. in finance and accounting in 1966 and aD.B.A. in finance in 1975. He was amember of the accounting honorary Beta Alpha Psi.Heworked for E.I. DuPont in Wilmington, Delawareasan assistant supervisor in the Treasurer’sDepartment between his master’sdegree and doctorate before coming to GWU.


Minor,ashewas known to family and friends, was avery competitive softball player and avid golfer in his few years of retirement. He was an especially gifted carpenter and built several recreational homes in Maryland and rural Virginia. He is survived by his brother,RichardC.Sachlis of Waynesboro, VA,and two nieces, Maria Sachlis of Oakton, VA,and Lynn Hoffman of McHenry, IL. He also leaves behind two dear friends, Jon Hur of Sewickley,PA, and Jon’sdaughter Wendy Schaeffer of King George, VA.Family will hold a private wake in lieu of afuneral.
