Dr Greg Whyte PhD, BSc (Hons) Welcome to the Autumn edition of sportEX dynamics. In the last issue I asked where do all the therapists go? This seemed to spark a bit of interest so thank you for the many replies.

One of the main reasons for not hitching up with a sports club seems to be that newly qualified graduates of every level of qualification are not confident in their abilities to apply their new skills to ‘live’ clients. I have some sympathy with this and look back on my own early efforts as being at best ‘unproductive’. But, the fact is that at some stage in its life every fledgling bird has to take the dramatic step of spreading its wings and leaping out of the nest. Once you get past the panic of that first step, and as long as you stick to your scope of practice, you won’t crash and burn. You will be fine. Ok, on the early flights you will probably have more questions than answers. That is what professional colleagues and CPD is all about. Reading the articles in sportEX is an excellent source of CPD but writing an article as a way of extending your knowledge is even better.
