model of group development was first proposed by Bruce Tuckman in 1965. It is a good template of performance that has survived the test of time. Tuckman maintained that the phases are all necessary and inevitable in order for a team to grow and eventually deliver results. The Sports Massage Association (SMA), whose members receive sportEX dynamics as part of their membership package, has recently been through three stages. It has emerged with new faces on its board and a new membership partner in Fitpro, one of the most respected organisations within the fitness industry. The SMA is now in the “perform” stage and, in the lead-up to London 2012, it is time for its members to put the past behind them, recognise that they have been through a common team-forming experience and reach for new heights. In membership organisations such as the SMA, all the members are part of the team and need to contribute to its success. It’s no good leaving everything to a few people and complaining if they do things that you don’t agree with. Roll your sleeves up, get your hands dirty and get involved. It’s the same with the contents of this magazine. We provide articles that we hope will be of interest to our readers, but we also want you, the readers, to contribute, which is why in this and the past couple of editions we have included articles sent in by sportEX dynamics readers. So, whether we are talking about your membership organisation or the publications you read, be proactive. If you want to do something or read about a particular topic, go and do it. Get involved!
