CONFERENCE 2008
SPORTEX 2008 CONFERENCE
OVERVIEW We know by now that practitioners love hands on time. So the sportEX conference for 2008 will focus on exactly that so over a period of two weeks we’ll be running two regional one- day workshops and a two day conference offering just that.
CONFERENCE FORMAT The format of the conference is simple, delegates will have the choice of attending two out of four (3 hour) hands-on sessions each day. If you can only attend for one day – you can choose two out of the four sessions. If you can make both days you can attend sessions with all four speakers. The sessions are limited to 35 participants with one massage couch for every two delegates.
ONE-DAY REGIONAL WORKSHOPS These will take place in London before the conference (Tuesday 4th November) and Edinburgh after the conference (Wednesday 12th November). These have been designed to allow you to spend a full day with our two Aussie practitioners. There is a 30% discount for anyone also booking a place on the conference (only available to people paying the full conference rate). See back page for more details.
THE FOUR PRACTITIONERS Stuart Hinds – a keynote speaker at the 2005 sportEX conference, Stuart is a lecturer in remedial soft tissue techniques at Victoria University and has been involved with elite road cyclists and a range of athletes from all professional levels of sport. Stuart was part of the massage services for the 2000 Olympic Games, assistant head of massage services for the Australian Olympic team in 2004 and is now in Beijing with the Australian team for the 2008 Olympics. His interests include fascial anatomy and dysfunction relating to common musculoskeletal conditions. Rob Granter – our keynote speaker at last year’s conference, Rob is widely regarded as one of Australia’s most respected educators and practitioners of soft tissue therapy. He has 20 years experience and has delivered more than 30 conference presentations within Australia and New Zealand. Rob is co- founder of the Australasian College of Soft Tissue Therapy and a contributor to the internationally successful, Brukner and Khan textbook “Clinical Sports Medicine”. Rob was head of massage therapy for the Australian Olympic Team in 1996 and 2000 and the Australian Commonwealth Games team in 1998. He also co-ordinated massage therapy services and the athlete recovery centre for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. Stuart Robertson – Stuart is arguably the UK’s most popular, innovative and inspirational soft tissue tutors. Feedback from those of you who have attended his workshops is always over-whelmingly good and let’s face we had to come up with
someone special to compete with those Aussies! Stuart is traditionally trained as a physiotherapist but increasingly spends his time learning and tutoring on the truly holistic approach to soft tissue injury. Those of you who have attended any of Stuart’s workshops will need no convincing, for those of you who haven’t this is your ideal chance! Ruth Duncan – Ruth graduated with honours as a clinical massage therapist in 2000 from the Humanities Centre School of Massage in Florida, USA. Her training included various techniques including therapeutic and sports/remedial massage with the neuromuscular component comprising of muscle energy techniques, positional release, trigger point therapy and ‘Barnes’ myofascial release (MFR). In 2003 Ruth returned to the US to continue post graduate training with John F. Barnes, one of the world’s leading authorities on myofascial release. She completed the final advanced retreat MFR seminar in October 2004 and is an assistant for the Barnes seminars in the US.
