If DAS storage is like piles of disorganized books…
And networked storage is like a library…
Then CAS is the catalogue. (Indexing & Version Control)
The easiest way to review our content aware type storage is to start with DAS. Our data is really stored in a disorganized pile so we started to do storage consolidation.
When we do storage consolidation our data is now neatly arranged but we still don’t know how many versions we’ve got or how many copies we’ve got.
This is where the CAS (content aware) type systems come in. Because they have the descriptors and content and profiling done we now know how many versions we‘ve got, how many copies we’ve got and we use it from the indexing – so it’s more like the librarian.
CAS Fixed content information. Searchable information. Index control
