Since 2001, Friends of Figure Skating (FOFS) has supported figure skaters of all ages and abilities, from those taking their first steps in a Learn to Skate USA class to those who represent our country as Olympians. Being part of this philanthropic group is rewarding and comes with membership benefits such as a subscription to SKATING magazine, tickets to the FOFS breakfasts at Skate America and the U.S. Championships, U.S. Figure Skating apparel and much more. Today, we Focus on Friends and share the story of one of our generous donors.
Julianne Prager, 92, of Saint Paul, Minnesota, is a blue-level member of FOFS. She grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, and attended Brown Uni- versity, where she met her husband Stephen. She then received her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Cornell Univer- sity, after being denied entrance to Cal Tech because it “did not accept wom- en students.” Shortly after, she and her husband moved to Saint Paul and she became a leading scientist for one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world, 3M. Julianne became a fore- most researcher and chairman of Tech- nical Forum, a professional fraternity of more than 3,000 3M scientists, before
she retired. While overcoming obstacles and excelling at her profession, Julianne and Stephen sustained a love for figure skating and, despite Stephen’s passing earlier this year, she still plans on attend- ing the U.S. Championships in Kansas City next year with her sister, Janet Gour- ley, who is also a Friend of Figure Skating. What made you want to be a
Friend of Figure Skating? I feel that it’s an obligation; if there’s something you truly enjoy and it’s a nonprofit, I feel it’s important to give back and support. Both my sister and I have been Friends of Figure Skating for 12 years and really love giving back to the sport. What is your favorite figure skat- ing moment? Attending U.S. Figure
Skating events with my sister, Janet; it’s something we both enjoy and it’s truly amazing how good the skaters are. What is your favorite perk/bene-
fit of being a FOFS? We love SKATING magazine and seeing other FOFS mem- bers at events. Janet and I go to as many events as we can and are so excited for the FOFS breakfast in Kansas City. Who is your favorite skater of all
time and why? Michelle Kwan. She is Janet’s favorite skater as well and we just adore her. To join Friends of Figure Skating,

With your generous donation you can help us deliver affordable educational opportunities to young coaches in our sport.
The Professional Skaters Foundation was founded to expand the educational opportunities of PSA members
through a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable foundation. The Trustees of the PSF have developed several scholarship programs for its members through a selection process based on established guidelines and criteria.
