A CUT ABOVE PHOTOS BY HANS ROSEMOND

DOLENSKY, TEAM USA SHARE HEALTHY LIFESTYLE TIPS Watch a video on ice-

network of Timothy Dolensky performing at a competition and something becomes abundantly apparent:

This guy is an exceptional athlete.

His flexibility, jumping prowess and the ease that he displays entering and exiting jumps are impressive to watch and appreciate. Dolensky, selected for this cover of

SKATING magazine, would be the first to admit that he isn’t one of the “cho- sen” ones when it comes to having a lot of natural athletic ability. He’s taken the “blue-collar” approach, spending countless hours working on his strength, flexibility and conditioning to help him become one of the country’s top skaters. His hard work was rewarded this

summer when he was selected to repre- sent Team USA at 2016 Progressive Skate America, to be held later this month near Chicago. The 24-year-old from Kennesaw,

Georgia, was one of 25 Team USA skat- ers/teams who participated in SKATING magazine’s #ShowMeHealthy photo shoot during Champs Camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in late August. The

goal of the photo shoot was to highlight the athleticism in the sport of figure skat- ing.

Dolensky incorporates varying activ-

ities to help him stay healthy, competi- tive … and sane. “I do lots of body weight core circuit

training that uses multiple body parts at a time,” he said. “I also do high-energy plyometrics and have become fascinat- ed with gymnastics strength training [GST]. On my own, I’ve started dabbling in some GST exercises for fun. I love how much body control it takes and I practice a little on my own every day when I warm up before skating.” Dolensky, an accomplished mu-

sician, relaxes after a draining day by sitting in front of his piano to work on a new song and run through some he al- ready knows. And if he dœsn’t have a pi- ano handy (like during Champs Camp), Dolensky is often spotted with his nose in a book. On the following pages, accompa-

nying the athletes’ photos are their tips and tricks to healthy living (including food, fitness and fun). We hope you enjoy the photos and perhaps you’ll find some inspiration in their words. Be sure to visit USFigureSkatingFan
