“I started my fresh- man year at Santa Clara University in September. This
semester I’m taking writing, history and political science class- es. Santa Clara was in a perfect location
for my ice rink and my home, and it’s a top-tier school. It was always in my mind, even in high school, because it was so close and it’s such a good school. When I actually
got in, I was really excited. I was grateful to have the opportunity to stay in the Bay Area and continue
training in my hometown and with my current coaching team.”
POGREBINSKY: “I have several favorite snacks-on-the-go. I love organic honey, which is something that is both delicious and good for the body. I enjoy dipping celery in honey even though it is, as some might say (including Alex), a ‘unique’ mix. I like to cook carrots with honey or dip apples in it. I also will mash a banana together with peanut butter and a small Greek yogurt. Some plain avocado mashed up with a pinch of salt always makes me happy.”
BENOIT: “I wake up every morning at 5, prepare myself for the day and eat breakfast. We skate for about four hours between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a break for food, then work for an hour off ice either in the weight room or at a dance class. Afterward, de- pending on whether or not school is in session, I go to class and study theatre, particularly acting, body motion and design.”
26 OCTOBER 2016 “I like to use my photography to recharge
after a long day or week of skating. It’s nice to get out, walk around and take
photos. I get to take a break from the mental stress of skating and just let my mind relax. There are so many great places to do this
where I live in California, but my favorite place to
COURTNEY HICKS
take pictures is at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado.”
