Skating Club in Parma, Ohio, promoted the new


Learn to Skate (LTS) USA program at the Parma City Parade this summer. The


club handed out Learn to Skate USA “goodies” and more than 600 fl yers advertising the club’s LTS USA program. On the same day as the parade, the club welcomed two new members.


Skating Club of Wilmington celebrates reunion


More than 100 current and former skat- ers, coaches and members gathered in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 23 for the fi rst Skating Club of Wilmington reunion.


Schneider-Farris becomes sextuple gold medalist


Annabelle Schneider-Farris, a member of the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club, passed her senior free dance test on June 19, becoming a U.S. Figure Skat- ing sextuple gold medalist.


Schneider-Farris, 16, is a disciple of the former Basic Skills Program — now Learn to Skate USA — and was featured on the cover of Basic Skills Program bro- chures during her early years in skating.


“Wow! A huge congratulations to her,” U.S. Figure Skat- ing Senior Director of Membership Susi Wehrli-Mc- Laughlin said. “This is amazing and I am not aware of another skater who has achieved such an accomplish- ment.”


Schneider-Farris’ road to six gold medals looks like this:

The event, held in conjunction with the 50th annual Skate Wilmington competi- tion, attracted alumni from 14 states. The club’s history of Olympic and World ath- letes includes Ashley Wagner, Kitty and Peter Carruthers, Stacey Smith and John Summers, Gillian Wachsman and Todd Waggoner, Elisa Spitz and Scott Grego- ry, Carol Fox and Richard Dalley, and Lea Ann Miller and Bill Fauver. Other Olympi- ans and World medalists who trained at the rink include Calla Urbanski and Rocky Marval, Viktor Pfeifer, and Suzy Semanick.


Stacey Smith, 1980 Olympian, and re- nowned former Skating Club of Wilm- ington coach Ron Ludington delivered heartfelt speeches that brought back many fond memories for the attendees.


Attendees sang “Happy Birthday” to longtime member Martha Baumeister, who celebrated her 90th birthday on the day of the reunion.


Skating Club of Wilmington coach Igor Yaroshenko played a 40-minute video montage of club memories.


The club has a long history of successful competitions, including hosting the fi rst U.S. Adult Championships in 1995. The Skating Club of Wilmington was estab- lished in 1955, and has been located on Carruthers Lane in Wilmington since the rink was completed in 1964.
