orlds away from the glare of city streetlights, the rumble of traffi c and the claustrophobia of crowded neighborhoods, wide-open spaces beckon those who long for a better quality of life. For many, it’s only a dream—to own a piece of land for
the fi rst time or return to the very ground where ancestors once shed their blood, sweat and tears to raise livestock or harvest crops. Purchasing rural acreage is no easy feat, but the benefi ts of life in the country are priceless. Across the nation, rural property is a hot commodity, and brothers Zane and Zed Goodwin are experts in the fi eld, literally. With seven generations of farming and ranching experience in their family, they enjoy connecting real estate clients with a little slice of Heaven in rural Oklahoma. “We’re selling the original dream that everyone came to America for—not just a house, but land,” Zane says. To understand their passion for selling country real estate is to understand the brothers’ childhood. Along with their older brother, the Goodwin boys grew up on a ranch near South Coffeyville in the Verdigris Valley Electric Cooperative service area where life revolved around hunting seasons, cattle and crops. After marrying farmers’ daughters and starting their own families, Zane and Zed were offered an opportunity to become realtors for White Tail Properties. Based in Pike County, Ill., the rural real estate company markets agricultural and recreational property and employs more than 120 realtors in 25 states.
“It was a strict interview process, but the company looked for our passion for the outdoors, land and hunting before considering our real estate expe- rience,” Zed says. “You had to prove you knew the land.” They joined White Tail Properties in 2009 and quickly developed a knack for the business. Each brother markets in a specifi c territory: Zane in north- east Oklahoma where he ranches as an East Central Oklahoma Electric Cooperative member and Zed in southeast Kansas and Oklahoma along the state line. “We started very strong in the hunting recreation side and then saw the need for farm and ranch properties,” Zane says. “We do business with a handshake. It still works to bring that into this market.” An honest work ethic is a tradition the brothers aren’t willing to compro- mise. Zane and Zed offer a free market analysis and general consultation with each piece of real estate and strive to streamline the buying and selling process as much as possible.

Standing in the middle of a barnyard on property he sold earlier this summer, Zane says his marketing strategy showcases those special details of the land and its character. The farm totals a whopping 687 acres just outside of Bristow and features bottomland, pasture and a stretch of historic Route
