co-op’s two-state service territory met in Vernon on August 13 for the organization’s 2015 annual meeting. The event was held at the Wilbarger Auditorium. A health

Board President Dan White discussed the co-op qualities that make SWRE different from traditional profit-driven utility companies. SWRE CEO Mike Hagy discussed challenges


and opportunities that


present themselves to the co-op. He told members that SWRE has plans to install a small solar field in Vernon, and will make the power available to co-op members. Tanner Vargas, a senior at Vernon High School, shared his experiences as a 2015 Youth Tour winner and thanked SWRE members for providing him with the experience of visiting Washington, D.C.


Kelly Shaffer of Elmer, who won the


SWRE Youth Tour fifty years ago in 1965, spoke about the lasting influence that the Youth Tour trip has had in his life. Co-op attorney Loyd Benson led a brief business meeting. A quorum was present for conducting business. The required quorum of five percent membership was 195. A total of 322 voting memberships were represented at the meeting. Total attendance was estimated at more than 600 people.


Several changes and additions to the SWRE by-laws were approved at the meeting.
