Annual meeting was great success

Our 78th Annual Meeting is now history! I want to thank all of the folks in Vernon for their hospitality. Special thanks to the Hillcrest Country Club for allowing us to use their conference area for the SWRE Board meeting on Thursday afternoon and thanks to the folks at Wilbarger Memorial Auditorium, site of the annual meeting, for helping with our set-up needs and making us feel at home.

Thank-you to the Wilbarger General Hospital personnel who hosted the annual meeting’s health fair and special thanks to those from the Association of Oklahoma Electric Cooperatives and Western Farmers Electric Cooperative who manned information tables. The SWRE App was featured at the meeting. The mobile application is available in both the iTunes and Android store. The application allows each member to view their bill, usage history, account, membership information as well as the ability to pay their bill and schedule reminders and alerts. Members can also take that same sign-in information to log-in on the SWRE website and graph usage by the hour, day, and month overlaid with high and low temperatures for the same periods of time. Both of these tools allow the member to view their usage and make decisions to help manage it. We also want to thank the Eagle Flats Brats dulcimer group for entertaining the crowd prior to the business meeting. Their dulcimer music was unique, beautiful, and much-enjoyed by everyone. Our Texas youth tour winner, Tanner Vargas, reported trip

on his to Washington, D.C. Oliveah Juanes,

SWRE’s Oklahoma youth tour winner, did not attend. Kelly Shaffer, the Oklahoma youth tour winner from 1965, told SWRE members how much his Washington D.C. trip, taken 50 years ago this summer, meant to him. He encouraged SWRE to continue its annual essay

that we have done this

by Mike R. Hagy

contest and selection of young people from our area to travel to Washington, D.C.

On a very positive note, our cooperative decided to give each member who registered a $25 credit on their primary electric account this year. This was the second year

and the SWRE

membership responded with a quorum of registrants. A total of 322 SWRE memberships were registered at

the annual meeting -- the most in many years. Total attendance was estimated at more than 600. In the business meeting portion of the program SWRE by-laws were updated -- the first by-laws revisions since 2005.

District prizes and many other door prizes were also given away. A $500 energy credit was the grand prize and was won by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jack McPherson. As we look back at the past year, it was an interesting

time! We have dealt with extreme drought, followed by heavy spring rains and significant storms that destroyed private property and damaged our SWRE infrastructure. A big thank you goes out to all the SWRE employees

who did all the work to make the meeting the great success that it was! Finally, thank you to all of our SWRE members. Thank you to those who were able to attend the annual meeting in Vernon as well as those who were not able to attend this year. Next year’s SWRE Annual Meeting will be held on the second Thursday of August in Altus, Oklahoma. Thank you for allowing us to serve you through our vision of safety, service, and satisfaction – one member at a time!
