Jane Gould Allen ’47 of Lowville, N.Y., died November 30. A business major, she was president of Lyons Falls National Bank. She served on the boards of the Central New York Disabilities Services Office, the South Lewis Central School District, and the Lyons Falls History Association. She was president of the Lewis County Historical Society. She is survived by husband Harold, two daugh- ters, a son, sister Mary Gould Markham ’50, nieces Nancy Markham Wooster ’78 and Jan Markham ’75, and five grand- children.


Patricia Kelleher ’47 of Montpelier, Vt., died January 1, 2014. She is survived by several cousins. Jean Stirling Horton ’47 of


Bernardsville, N.J., died November 22. A sociology major, she was a longtime advo- cate for the needy and founded Friends of the Shelter and the Visiting Nurse Association’s Adult Care Center, both in Basking Ridge. She also served as a trustee of the Bernardsville Public Library. For Skidmore she was class president, Friends of the Presidents chair, club officer, reunion volunteer, and class agent. She is survived by two sons, two daughters, sev- eral grandchildren including Rebecca Horton ’08, and sister Mary Stirling Campbell ’51. Marjorie West Bahlke ’48 of NYC died December 1. She was an economics major. After she and husband Bill retired and moved to Florida, she became a licensed pilot, flying a Cessna aircraft around the US. She was a library and nursing home volunteer, and she served Skidmore as a longtime class agent. She is survived by three daughters and a son, six grandchil- dren, and a great-grandchild; husband Bill predeceased her. Nancy Weiner Stiner ’48 of Hamden, Conn., died December 21. An art major, she was a licensed fine-art appraiser and a member of the Appraisers Association of America. She is survived by a son and daughter and five grandchildren. Her hus- band, Richard, predeceased her. Sara Fetridge Sloat ’48 of Keene, N.H., died December 3. She was an elementary school librarian and civic volunteer. She is survived by husband Frank, two daugh- ters, four grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren.


Gloria Dahar Ashooh ’50 of Centreville,


Va., died November 30. A government major, she worked in the US Office of General Services. She is survived by a daughter and two sons. Her husband, Joseph, predeceased her. Jacqueline Post Personeus ’50 of


Barrington, R.I., died November 19. An art major, she completed a bachelor’s in art at William Patterson College in 1979. She was an avid painter who exhibited her work in and around Treasure Island, Fla. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, 10 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Jean Possee Tillman ’50 of Edgewater, Fla., died July 20. An English major, she was a homemaker and community volun- teer. She is survived by two sons, a daugh- ter, and seven grandchildren. Her hus- band, John, predeceased her. Ruthy Purdy Frenzel ’51 of McLean,


Va., died February 6. An art major, she devoted her life to politics, volunteer service, and philanthropy. As the wife of Minnesota Congressman Bill Frenzel, she played an active role in cultural and social organizations in Minnesota and Washington, D.C. She was a longtime diplomatic liaison on the board of the Welcome to Washington Club and served as chair of the city’s Symphony Ball and Ambassador’s Ball. She earned the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Award for her many years of service and fundraising. She served Skidmore as alum- ni board president, trustee, and member of the Leadership Gifts and Friends of the Presidents committees. She was also a past regional club president, class FOP chair, campaign volunteer, and class agent. In 1986, the alumni association recognized her with an Outstanding Service Award. She is survived by three daughters, including Debby Frenzel ’75 and Mitty Frenzel ’80. Husband Bill predeceased her.


James Rivers ’52 of Montpelier, Vt., died July 26. He completed a bachelor’s at Cornell University and went on to earn a JD from Cornell Law School. He was for- mer vice president of National Life Insurance Co. He is survived by wife Claire, two sons, two daughters, and six grandchildren.


Elizabeth Pratt Guenther ’53 of Putney, Vt., died November 13. A home econom- ics major, she was a public school teacher. After her retirement, she taught painting and drawing at the Currier Art Center before opening a fine art and crafts store. She earned a BFA from the University of New Hampshire in 1986. An ardent Democrat, she worked energetically on the Dean and Obama presidential cam- paigns. She is survived by a son and daughter, sister Mary Pratt Champenois ’56, and three grandchildren. Lauderdale, Fla., died on January 29. An art major, she was vice president and art buyer for Allied Graphic Arts, where she was responsible for producing catalogs for such retailers as Macy’s, Bloomingdales, and Ethan Allen. She also taught continu- ing education classes in catalog design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She served Skidmore as a class agent, reunion volunteer, and class secretary. There are no known survivors. Husbands George and Martin predeceased her. Carolyn Blumer Gaieck ’56 of Greenfield, Wis., died August 15. A nurs- ing major, she worked as an Army nurse in Germany and for the Visiting Nurse Association in NYC and Wisconsin. She is survived by a daughter and two sons. Judith Lyman Shipley ’57 of Summit, N.J., died December 16. A nursing major, she was an energetic community leader and philanthropist. She was a passionate advocate for affordable senior housing in Summit and sat on the board of Sage Elder Care. She was a founding trustee of the New Jersey chapter of the Nature Conservancy; she and husband Walter also supported the Greater Newark Conservancy, which named its gardens the Judith L. Shipley Urban Environmental Center in her honor. Her philanthropy also benefitted such groups as the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, the Summit Speech School, and Alina Lodge, a local substance-abuse treatment facility, earning her a United Way Citizen of the Year Award. She served Skidmore as a campaign and reunion volunteer, class nursing chair, and Friends of the Presidents leader. She is survived by husband Walter, four daughters, a son, and five grandchil- dren.


Joan Peabody Dale ’61 of Pittsford,


N.Y., died July 7. She was a floral designer. She is survived by a daughter, two sons, and seven grandchildren. Nancy Cluck McIntyre ’68 of Laguna Beach, Calif., died October 7. An art his- tory major, she earned a master’s in com- parative literature from the University of California at Irvine. She was a longtime elementary school teacher and reading specialist. She is survived by her husband, Spencer, and a daughter. Virginia Kemball-Cook Peake ’69 of Simsbury, Conn., died December 19. A government major, she was an accom- plished artist specializing in oil paintings. Her late father was Skidmore Trustee Emeritus Denis Kemball-Cook. She is sur- vived by husband Jonathan, a son and daughter, and three grandchildren.
