DRIVE: LIBERTY’S TOP SCORER, ANGELA BOTIBA ’15 LEADS THE T’BREDS TO THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP.


Basketball. Both men’s and women’s squads had championship seasons and thrilling postseason performances. The men won their third Liberty League championship with a 68-64 win over Clarkson in front of an SRO home crowd. In the NCAA tournament first round, Skidmore beat NESCAC champion Wesleyan, 81-66; the T’breds were edged by host Johns Hopkins, 61-58, in the Round of 32. Skidmore finished at 20-8 (14-2 in league play). Aldin Medunjanin ’16 was Liberty League Co-Player of the Year and made the NABC All-East first team. Connor Merrill ’15 became Skidmore’s first player in the Reese’s NABC D-III Senior All-Star Game. The women won the Liberty cham - pionship with a hard-fought 67-62 double-overtime road win over St. Lawrence and earned the program’s first-ever NCAA tournament bid. In the NCAA first round, they lost in a 62-60 overtime heartbreaker to St. John Fisher. The team had a 17-11 over- all record. Four-time All-Liberty League selection Angela Botiba ’15 made the D3hoops All-East second team. Ice hockey. The young Skid- more squad finished 4-19-3, losing to UMass-Boston in the ECAC East quarter - finals. The team had 11 players (including Ondrej Krajnak ’16, at right) named to the ECAC East All- Academic team. Swimming and diving. T’bred men and women fared well in the UNYSCSA championship meet. The men set sev- eral records on their way to 10th place, their highest team finish; the women placed 12th. Nick Sauerbrunn ’15 set a relay record and five individual records, including seventh place in the 500 freestyle (4:43.08). Catherine King ’15 finished 10th in the 50 free (24.68) and 100 free (53.29). Riding. The team won its 17th straight regional title, with a record 75 points. Next, its second-place finish, behind St. Lawrence, in the Zone 2 championships qualified it for May’s IHSA nationals, where Lauren Bosche ’15 and Heather Zhang ’15 also qualified to compete as individuals.
