Brooklyn sound designer Jesse Flower- Ambroch partnered with actor-writer Jamie Peterson to produce a video that was part of Peterson’s one-man play, Watch Me Fall Apart, staged at the Incubator Arts Project in NYC last year. Jesse and Jamie have been fine-tuning the video, with hopes of a Los Angeles pre- miere. Jesse directed and edited it; pho- tographer-filmmaker Simon Biswas man- aged the color grading.


After completing a PhD in sport and exercise psychology, Ian Connole did a brief stint at Colgate University before being recruited for his dream job: director of sport psychology at Kansas State University’s athletics department. Now in his second year at KSU, Ian works with varsity athletes to enhance their perform- ance and well-being. After graduation, Jocelyn Polen moved to Germany, eventually settling in Berlin, where she completed a master’s in com- parative literature. She has done every- thing from farming to freelance writing (including for Exberliner magazine) to translating from German to English, which she now does full-time. Jocelyn is also mom to 6-month-old Adelaide. She and her partner, fellow translator Alex Gibert, traveled to Barcelona, Spain, to escape the direst part of winter. Two days after returning from a honeymoon in Bermuda, she accepted a position teaching special education for the East Williston School District in Long Island, N.Y., where she had been a teaching assis- tant for the previous five years. She loves her new job. Coincidentally, the district superintendent is Elaine Kanas ’73. Ashley Halsey moved from NYC, where she was doing children’s book design, to Portland, Maine, to start her own free- lance design and illustration business. Eric Lampman is a research and devel- opment manager at Lake Champlain Chocolates in Burlington, Vt. I am an elementary-school speech and language pathologist and love my job. Jonathan Brestoff Parker is first author on a scholarly paper documenting research that he and other scientists have been conducting on obesity. Published in the prestigious journal Nature, it details findings that high levels of “white fat,” which is stored and difficult to break down, contribute to obesity, while “brown fat,” which can be more easily burned for energy, does not. Jon and colleagues iden- tified a “beiging” process that helps white fat become more like brown fat. An MD and PhD candidate at Penn, he is still col- laborating with Skidmore professor T. H. Reynolds on potential obesity treatments. Jon is a also a Skidmore trustee. After five years in the hospitality indus-

Simon Gunner is a botanist at Olofson Environmental in the San Francisco Bay area. Ryan Greer is co-founder of online chil- dren’s book retailer BookBugs (bookbugs.net), a for-profit that donates one of out of every three books sold to nonprofit agencies helping underprivi- leged kids learn to read. Ryan, who serves as CEO and director of social impact, says the business model allows consumers to invest in their communities in a mean- ingful way while helping agencies, such as the Compass Youth Collaborative, dis- tribute new books selected specifically for their students.
