11. TO MOUNT NEBO AND PETRA
Depart the Dead Sea for the ancient “lost city” of Petra; on the way, stop at Mount Nebo, where Moses looked out upon the “Promised Land.” You’ll also visit the Memorial Church of Moses to see its ancient mosaics, located inside the excavated Old Baptistery. Biblical history is everywhere en route, most notably in Madaba; visit St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church to view a map from the 6th century detailing major biblical sites. 12. PINK CITY OF PETRA & BEDOUIN DINNER Spend the morning discovering the 2,000-year-old pink city of Petra, carved out of rose-colored sandstone cliffs. The temples, tombs and the Treasury remained hidden in the mountains for thousands of years before Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt rediscovered them in 1812. Explore on foot and by horse cart; visit the elaborately sculpted Treasury – after lunch in the old city, return to your hotel by camel and horse cart. Spend the afternoon at leisure at the hotel, then get set for tonight’s
