1. ARRIVE QUITO, ECUADOR Tour begins: Swissôtel Quito. A transfer is included from Mariscal Sucre International Airport to the Swissôtel Quito, located more than 9,000 feet above “seal level.” Get acclimated to the elevation and rest up for tomorrow’s early start.
2. AT THE MIDDLE OF THE WORLD IN QUITO Sightseeing begins at la mitad del mundo (the Equator) where you put one foot in each hemisphere at the same time! Next, visit the Inti Ñan Museum and have lunch at a restaurant perched on the edge of Pululahua Volcano. Then set off with a guide in Quito’s colonial quarter to see Carondelet Palace (the president’s palace); the cathedral; city hall; and the archbishop’s palace. Enjoy a toast and entertainment at a historic mansion, followed by a welcome dinner at your hotel. Meals BLD
3. FLY TO THE ISLANDS THAT TIME FORGOT Fly to Baltra Island for your cruise* aboard Santa Cruz II. Your first cruise stop is a wet landing on Santa Cruz Island’s Playa las Bachas, a nesting area for the East Pacific green sea turtle. Explore areas around lagoons that attract pintail ducks and long-legged wading birds like flamingoes and stilts. Back on the ship, meet the captain and ship’s officers and get a briefing on tomorrow’s activities from onboard naturalists. Meals BLD
