GOODBYE 2016…
Goodbye 2016… Hello 2017!
We asked the industry for its thoughts on the 12 months behind us and the 12 months ahead. BOY did they answer! Part two next issue.
Per Eriksson, CEO NETENT
What were NetEnt’s biggest events in 2016? It has been another fantastic year for NetEnt,
but two things stand out in particular. The first is the NetEnt Rocks Tour, where we marked 20 years of innovation by launching three new game themes based on rock legends Guns N’ Roses, Jimi Hendrix and Motörhead. Each game featured an electric math model and anthemic soundtrack that made players want to jack up the volume and rock out while spinning the reels. The tour was a roaring, sell-out success. We also rolled-out NetEnt Live Mobile, a
truly innovative and ground-breaking platform that puts live casino on mobile in a meaningful way for the very first time. We built the product in-house from the ground-up, from concept to launch. It was developed in collaboration with players, who know exactly what they want from a live casino product. Our unique streaming technology also allows operators to inexpensively customise the casino background, tailoring it to their individual brands and styles. The result is a live dealer mobile offering that completely changes the game.
What do you think was the most important occurrence for the industry in 2016? The growing popularity of live casino games
is providing suppliers and operators with the impetus to dig deep and push the limits of what can be achieved in the vertical. Live casino is the most immersive and authentic game operators can offer their players, but we have only just scratched the surface of what can be done. As technology becomes more powerful and capable, it allows us to deliver live casino on mobile devices in a way that is equally engaging and thrilling as on desktop. As mentioned above, the launch of NetEnt Live Mobile is a breakthrough moment for the vertical, which will gain even more momentum in the new year.
88 JANUARY 2017 The potential of regulation development is
What are you most excited about for the industry in 2017? I’m excited to continue to monitor how
regulation continues to develop and expand. As more markets move to regulate, or re-regulate, we see opportunities for growth across Europe and North America with this product as well as our portfolio of slots games. The potential regulation of the Swedish
market is certainly of great interest, and we are keeping close to developments in South America and Canada.
What are you most excited about for NetEnt in 2017? After our progress in live casino in 2016 we are planning more of the same in 2017, when we will follow-up the launch of our mobile live casino product by significantly expanding our table games portfolio for this in the coming year.
what excites us most. The USA is another market that we are monitoring closely. Momentum is really starting to build behind the next wave of states looking to legalise and regulate online casino and poker games, particularly Pennsylvania. We already have a strong presence stateside, supplying our casino games to the majority of operators live in New Jersey. The US has the potential to become one of, if not the, largest regulated egaming markets in the world. For NetEnt, it is continuing to push the boundaries and create the best content the industry has to offer. An example of how we are looking to achieve this is with the opening of a new development studio in Krakow, Poland earlier this year to bolster our creative and technical teams with even more top-notch talent. We are really excited to see how the Krakow team can help us inject even more excitement and innovation into or product pipeline, and continue to move the needle in the games and content we deliver to our partners.
Anything else you’d like to say about the passing of 2016 and 2017’s arrival? It has been another spectacularly successful
year for NetEnt, as well as the wider industry. The whole sector has grown at a rapid pace over the past 12 months, with suppliers innovating, creating, and bringing new and exciting games and products to market. We have played a big part in this, of course, and look forward to seeing everyone at ICE Totally Gaming in February where we will flick the switch on our latest blockbuster launches, Live Casino, VR and more!
