This chapter of the Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR) assesses the potential airborne noise impacts of the proposed East Anglia THREE project during the construction, operation and decommissioning.


Figures which complement the text in this chapter are provided in Volume 2 Figures 26.1 to 26.4.


This chapter includes assessment on traffic noise, with reference to Chapter 27 Traffic and Transport.


This chapter was prepared by Royal HaskoningDHV. Reference has been made to the applicable National Policy Statement (NPS) EN-1 which includes details on the assessment of noise and vibration.

At the time of writing this PEIR consultations are ongoing with relevant stakeholders including Suffolk County Council (SCC), Suffolk Coastal District Council (SCDC) and Mid Suffolk District Council (MSDC).


Since the East Anglia THREE site is situated a significant distance from land based receptors, the effect of both airborne construction noise and operational noise on land based receptors will be low due to the attenuation of noise over the large distances involved, and noise is extremely unlikely to result in significant onshore impacts. Therefore, the potential impact of airborne noise resulting from construction, operation and maintenance and decommissioning of the offshore elements of the proposed East Anglia THREE project have been scoped out of the EIA.

In addition, due to the large separation distance the potential cumulative and in- combination impacts of the offshore windfarm have also been scoped out of the EIA (see Scoping Opinion, Planning Inspectorate 2012).
