ture and Design Awards winners have been chosen. You can read about them in our November 2014 issue, which is out now. And for us at BJI, that means only one thing: It is time to start looking for next year’s winners. You may be looking at a contender right here. This is The Booth, an underground bowling alley built beneath the Columbus Athletic Club (ACC) in downtown Columbus, Ohio, in 1915. Columbus Under- ground reported on Oct. 14 that “The five-lane facility was construct- ed in the basement of the clubhouse,” and that it “has not seen a renovation since the 1970s.”


That disregard came to a grand halt when the ACC hired Meyers


and Associates, an architecture and interior design company based in Columbus, to usher the establishment into the 21st century in style. The Booth, named for Henry Booth, the ACC’s first president, now is a boutique establishment with a glitzy new look. The refurbished center opened its doors on Oct. 21. Check it out for yourself!

NEVER HEARD BOWLING LIKE THIS BEFORE With technological advances in virtually all areas, bowling has become among the more scientific of all sports. When we saw this video for the first time — a pendulum wave demonstration with bowling balls — we knew there was some pretty cool science involved; we just couldn’t tell you what kind. The best description we could come up with is it might be what Saturday nights at the bowling center would be like if Yanni were providing the soundtrack.
