NINE TOUR STOPS IN 2015 The United States Bowling

Congress and the Bowling Pro- prietors’ Association of America dropped a bombshell on the bowling world with an Oct. 10 announcement of plans to “re- launch” the Professional Wom- en’s Bowling Association Tour, which dissolved in 2003 under financial strain. The plan involves a nine-stop

tour between July 10 and Sept. 7, 2015, with 24 guaranteed cashing spots and a guaranteed minimum $10,000 top prize available at each stop. In an Oct. 15 conference call about the ini- tiative, Chad Murphy, USBC ex- ecutive director, said the format will involve 24 games of quali- fying and match play followed by a championship round to be broadcast live on BowlTV. The plan is to conduct

and job obligations back home during the week. Murphy hoped that a guaranteed minimum low cash prize of $1,200 would be enough to cover expenses for those competitors who have to travel farther than others to bowl a given tour stop. Murphy said most championship rounds would take place on Saturday nights, but allowed for the possibility that some would occur on Sundays. However, no plans appear to be underway to ink a television deal for the new PWBA Tour. Much more information about plans to re-launch the PWBA Tour is available on Bowlers Journal’s website, where you can read our comprehensive story on everything we have learned about the initiative by clicking on the Touch For More icon.

EVERYTHING BOWLING, ALL THE TIME

Kelly Kulick, a USBC board member who has won five majors, said she is “over the moon” about plans to revive the PWBA, and was especially thrilled that the initiative entails a three-year commitment.

Frank DeSocio, BPAA ex- ecutive director, said the excitement through- out the International Bowling Campus was palpable when news of a PWBA re-launch broke on Oct. 10.

Chad Murphy, USBC executive director, said the new PWBA is not being built “as a profit center,” but rather as a tool to promote profes- sional bowling in local markets throughout the country.
