THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

52 Hook 12 Length 12 Breakpoint Shape RADICAL: SCORE

Manufacturer’s Intent: “The Score ball provides proven reliability by combining the original Reax core with a brand new coverstock to increase the reaction at the breakpoint,” says Radical ball designer Mo Pinel. “This is a great benchmark ball. [It should be] the first ball out of your bag to help you get a handle on the lane condition.”

Core: The Score uses the asymmetric offset core, producing an RG of 2.492, a high differential of .054 and an intermediate differential of .013. We had 4 inches of flare with our layouts.

Coverstock: The Score is wrapped with a dark and light purple solid reactive coverstock. It comes out of the factory sanded with 500 Siaair and topped off with Royal Compound. The effective surface grit is 3900, with an RA value of 4.93.

Overview: The Score reads the pattern with predictable motion and provides a good picture of how a pattern is playing. I haven’t seen too many asymmetrical benchmark balls before, but this is a good one. It reads the midlane smoothly while saving its energy nicely for strong-rolling, continuous motion through the pin deck. On Stone Street, we were able to roll it from the 12 to the 8-board with a predictable motion on the fresh, and create a smooth bounce off the track area. The Score also provided extremely good reaction on the fresh USBC Doubles/Singles pattern. It really smoothed out the pattern from around 13 to 8. The recovery was predictable, with no over-reaction. On our lighter house pattern, we had to move in deeper because of the strong coverstock, but we still had a smooth reaction. Carry also was good from the deeper angle, as the asymmetric core allowed us to

really open up the lane. The Score was earlier and read the midlane more predictably, with a few more boards hook, than the Grease Monkey Pow (August 2014). This is a true benchmark ball and fits into pretty much every style of tournament bowler’s bag. The Score will help you score, just like its name says.
