Ball Review
THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST
61 Hook 13 Length 13 Breakpoint Shape RADICAL: GURU
Manufacturer’s Intent: “The Guru uses advanced dynamic principles to provide an aggressive ball motion for all bowlers,” says Radical’s Mo Pinel. “It’s got all the hook you’ll ever need, and in the right place on the lane — that’s from the breakpoint through the pins. It provides ball motion to the average bowler that was previously available only to the rev-dominant bowler. You’ll have to experience it to understand it completely — lots of hook and hit!”
Core: The new Guru asymmetric core has an RG of 2.499, a differential of .044 and an intermedi- ate differential of .018. We saw more than 5 inch- es of flare.
Coverstock: The black solid reactive coverstock is sanded with 500 and then 1500 Siaair. The
effective surface grit is 640 with an RA value of 27.28.
Overview: This ball takes hook to another level or, should I say, to another arrow or two on longer, heavier conditions. On Stone Street, I was laying the ball down around the 24-board out to 5 at the breakpoint of 45 feet. We had almost unlim- ited area to the right. Even if we missed it at the bottom, it still hooked back. We had some hold area, but it was a lot easier to focus on missing right. We were more than seven boards left of the Score with the Guru on the Stone Street pattern. Up until this ball was released, the Yeti Unleashed (March 2014) provided the most hook I had seen from Radical, but the Guru was over an arrow more on the Stone Street pattern; it just never stopped hooking. We could get lined up on the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern from fourth arrow,

but had to focus on getting the ball right. The Guru was way too strong for our light house pat- tern, even from inside the sixth arrow. If we had made a surface change, it might have worked. For all bowlers needing free hook on longer, heavier patterns, this is the ball for you. The Guru creates magic when it drives through the pins, as it contin- ues through the 8- and 9-pins nicely without losing hitting power. This is the most hook I have seen in all our reviews this year, and has probably the most hook out of any ball I’ve ever seen.
