THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST
56.5 Hook 14 Length 13 Breakpoint Shape 900 GLOBAL: MOXIE
Manufacturer’s Intent: “The Moxie is your heavy oil ball,” says 900 Global Technical Director, Dave Smart. “Fitting in our Prime Series (Upper Mid), our all-new 78 Dig hybrid shell is wrapped around the innovative Tetra Symmetric Core, which combined produce very heavy mid- lane roll and smooth, continuous motion down the lane. Make no mistake, with the Moxie’s out- of-box 4000 finish, it will cut through any amount of oil you can find.”
Core: The Tetra symmetric core has an RG of 2.49 and high differential of .052 to charge it up. We saw about 5 inches of flare.
Coverstock: The red/yellow/black 78 Dig hybrid reactive coverstock has a 4000 pad matte finish. The effective surface grit of the Moxie out of the box is 2900, with an RA value of 8.3.
Overview: The Moxie is a lot of reaction for your money. It really opens up the lane on heavier oiled conditions. Both Terrance and I were able to use this ball with good success on the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern between the second and third arrows, with some miss room right and some hold to the left. According to CATS, we could get to the 7- or 8-board with easy recovery to the pocket and a strong, continuous motion through the pins. As it drives through the pins, the ball keeps them low to the deck, providing a noticeably good carry percentage. As strong as this ball is, the Moxie gets through the front part of the lanes pretty easily and saves its energy off the midlane for a strong, continuous back-end motion. It worked really well for us on the Stone Street house pattern. We started off near the track area and were able to chase the pattern inside as it broke

down, and never saw the ball lose its energy or drive, no matter how far left we moved. It was too much ball for us on the light volume house pattern. No matter how deep we went, there wasn’t enough oil to get the ball down the lane. The Moxie out-hooked the All Day (August 2014) by about three or four boards, and had a stronger reaction down the lane. It picked up sooner than the Dream (August 2014). The Moxie is a ball that will help higher speed bowlers who don’t have a lot of revs.
