THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

46 Hook 15 Length 14 Breakpoint Shape COLUMBIA 300: ERUPTION PRO HYBRID

Manufacturer’s Intent: “The new Eruption Pro Hybrid features a hybrid version of Clean Reaction 300, the coverstock formula that helped make the original Eruption Pro [December 2013] a huge success,” says Group Marketing Director for Communications, Bugsy Kelly. “The Hybrid version of the Eruption Pro provides greater length and outstanding back-end motion. This new addition to Columbia 300’s line gives bowlers a great go-to ball for a wide range of medium to dry condi- tions.”

Core: The modified Resurgence symmetric core has an RG of 2.50 and low differential of .036. We saw only two to three inches of flare.

Coverstock: The hot emergency orange and fire pearl CR 300 hybrid reactive shell comes out of the box sanded three times with 500-grit Abralon,

once with 1500-grit Abranet and then polished at 300-rpm.

Overview: This newest addition to the Eruption line is made for medium and lighter volume patterns. It is powered by a modified version of the ever-popular and successful Resurgence core. The hybrid version rolls up a little earlier than the original Eruption Pro and cuts through the oil with greater ease. On the light house pattern, the ball opened up the track area nicely with good drive through the pocket and pins, providing good length with a strong, predictable motion off the breakpoint. There were some issues, however, as it pushed too far on the longer Stone Street house pattern. If we kept it in the track area, we could find a good angle to the pocket. On the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern, we needed to play more direct, around

the 8-board, but I think knocking the shine off the ball would put it into play on this shot. The Eruption Pro Hybrid put us three or four boards right with our feet, and two with our eyes, com- pared to the Throw Down (September 2014), but definitely provided an easier push and more flip when it made its move on the backend. I see this as a No. 3 ball for most bowlers. I also see slower ball speed players really liking this ball on hooking heads or lighter patterns. If you liked the original Eruption Pro, then you will need to add this one to your bag to complement it.
