THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

55 Hook 11.5 Length 11.5 Breakpoint Shape SEISMIC: EQUALIZER

Manufacturer’s Intent: The Equalizer has a strong core and coverstock for traction in heavy oil and recovery off the dry boards, according to the manufacturer.

Core: The Equalizer uses the Tenaci asymmetric core, also used in the Venator (August 2013). It has an RG of 2.500, a differential of .052 and a strong intermediate differential of .026. We saw more than 5 inches of flare with our layouts.

Coverstock: The Equalizer is wrapped up with the new lagoon teal and orange Infensus SR2 coverstock. It comes out of the factory sanded with 2000 Abralon. The effective surface grit measures 2700 with an RA value of 9.28.

Overview: When you pull the Equalizer out of your bag, there had better be some oil on the

lanes because this ball brings you a lot of hook. The Equalizer is a strong asymmetric ball that gives you a lot for the money. It really opened up the high-volume Stone Street house pattern. We could get in around 17 at the arrows and throw it all the way out to the 8-board at the breakpoint, and it came back with a strong drive through the pins; the carry was very good. Obviously, this ball reads the midlane well. We were pleased to see a continuous motion toward the pocket without the hook-stop that some asymmetric balls have. The Equalizer was not the right ball for our lighter house pattern; it was way too strong, and we were forced to play really deep to get it down the lane. On the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern, we could play inside with a good shot to the pocket because of how it reads the midlane; it gave us some area to play with. The Equalizer out-hooked the original

Euphoric (April 2014) by four boards at the arrows on Stone Street, and the Euphoric TSE (reviewed next) by about eight boards. This is a ball for bowlers needing that extra help for hook on longer or higher volume patterns.
