THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

52 Hook 16 Length 16 Breakpoint Shape EBONITE: SALUTE

Manufacturer’s Intent: “The Salute uses a throwback core that once had the industry buzz- ing as an HP product and is sure to get everyone talking again, as we are bringing it back at a great value,” says Ebonite Marketing Director, Bugsy Kelly. “The Adrenaline core is a strong symmetric option [that] this price point has been missing, and it helps create the long and strong motion consumers are looking for. The Adrenaline core has been wrapped with an all new hybrid cover that’s poured with an attractive blend of 80% black solid and 20% silver pearl. The Big Time Hybrid cover provides easy length and equally strong motion in the midlane and backend. This ball is best suited for medium oil conditions.”

Core: The famous Adrenaline symmetric core’s RG is 2.50 and the differential is a high .056. We saw 4 inches of flare.

Coverstock: The black and silver pearl hybrid coverstock is sanded with 500/1000 Abralon and polished with Powerhouse factory finish polish. The effective surface grit is 5200. The RA is 1.49.

Overview: The Salute gives a clean motion through the fronts with a strong mid-lane and continuous back-end reaction. It was obviously a lot cleaner through the fronts with more back-end reaction than the Energy Source (July 2014) and Honor (September 2014). It really opened up the lane for us on the light house pattern with a lot of area to the right and some hold left. The extra length enabled us to be about four boards right from the Honor, which made the shot easier. On the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern, we played up the track area with a great look on the fresh and a pretty predictable, strong back-end reaction. When this pattern broke down, we moved deeper without losing energy or hitting power. This

ball drives hard through the pins, while keeping them low for optimum striking potential. On Stone Street, we had to play closer to the track area, but the breakpoint was a little late on the fresh. Once the pattern broke down, however, the path to the pocket opened up nicely. The Salute should fit a lot of dif- ferent styles. It helps bowlers needing length with a strong drive through the pins. High-rev players will be able to get deeper on medium to drier conditions without the ball losing its energy. This is a sharp look- ing — in an old-school kind of way — bowling ball.
