Optical Gas Imaging Camera for Use Inside ATEX Zone 2 Locations


The GFx320 Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) camera from FLIR Systems combines proven, innovative technology with the assurance of third-party certifi cation for use inside ATEX Zone 2 (Class I, Div. II) hazardous locations.


With new stricter global standards for methane emissions, there is a growing need for faster, safer, and more reliable methods to locate and repair hydrocarbon leaks across the oil and natural industry.


FLIR Systems, has addressed that need with its intrinsically safe OGI camera - the GFx320. Through thoughtful design the GFx320 meets sensitivity standards such as those defi ned in US EPA’s new OOOOa methane rule. Benefi cially it also automatically tags fi les with the GPS data often required for regulatory reporting.


Independent testing of the GFx320 to demonstrate compliance with the EPA’s NSPS 40 CFR part 60, subpart OOOOa sensitivity standard for optical gas imaging equipment was performed by the UK National Physical Laboratory (NPL). In these tests, the NPL confi rmed that the FLIR GFx320 optical gas imaging camera is capable of imaging a gas that is half methane/half propane at a concentration of 10,000 ppm at a fl ow rate of less than or equal to 60g/hr from a quarter inch diameter orifi ce.


The GFx320 optical gas imaging camera is capable of imaging a wide array of gas compounds, but was specifi cally designed to see the following hydrocarbons: Methane, Benzene, Propane, Butane, Ethane, Ethanol, Ethylbenzene, Ethylene, Heptane, Hexane, Isoprene, MEK, Methanol, MIBK, Octane, Pentane, Propylene, Toluene, Xylene and1- Pentene.

Ideal for oil and gas, wastewater, heavy manufacturing, confi ned space and other applications, BW Clip4 signifi cantly reduces maintenance costs associated with fl eets of portable gas detectors by eliminating repair work and the need to stock additional sensors and spare units. Using non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) technology, previously available only in fi xed-gas detectors from Honeywell Analytics, the BW Clip4 consumes 1,000-times less battery power than a catalytic bead (pellistor) sensor, the traditional technology used to detect fl ammable gases in a portable device.


Other features include: Simultaneous monitoring of H2 S, CO, O2 and combustibles (LEL); Real-time display


for instant gas readings even in non-alarm conditions, along with current gas concentration level and changes in atmospheric conditions; Simplifi es fl eet management by generating record and compliance reports automatically (using Honeywell Intellidox instrument management system); and Internal test function reduces downtime by tracking battery life and alerting users when the battery is ready for replacement.
