New Cannabis Analyzer for Potency Provides Effortless Determination of Cannabinoid Content
Shimadzu Scientifi c Instruments (SSI) announces the release of its new Cannabis Analyzer for Potency. This high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) is the fi rst- ever instrument designed specifi cally for quantitative determination of cannabinoid content. With the Cannabis Analyzer for Potency, operators are now able to produce accurate results with ease, regardless of cannabis testing knowledge or chromatography experience.
The Cannabis Analyzer for Potency is a comprehensive package integrating instrument hardware, analytical workfl ows, and supplies, including an analytical column, guard columns, mobile phase, and a CRM standard mixture. After one day of installation and testing, users are equipped with everything they need to obtain cannabis potency results. Operators save valuable lab time because they don’t have to develop quantitative testing methods. Included methods have been confi rmed for ruggedness, repeatability, and quantitative accuracy.
The analyzer’s workfl ows address three analysis goals: high sample throughput, enhanced sensitivity, and resolving power for myriad cannabinoid targets. The High Throughput method package is designed for the quantitative potency determination of the 10 cannabinoids of greatest interest in less than 8 minutes per sample. The High Sensitivity method package adds THCV to the target analyte list, with an analysis time of 10 minutes. The High Resolution method package presents full baseline resolution for all 11 compounds in less than 30 minutes and offers the ability to expand the target list as regulations change.
A dedicated user interface simplifi es the workfl ow and reduces the number of steps in the analysis. The Cannabis Analyzer for Potency is designed for maximum uptime, economical to own and comes with a three-year warranty and preventive maintenance plan.

Phenomenex Inc. work in the Luna column family. The fi rst is the new Luna Omega Polar C18 stationary phase – a unique selectivity on an innovative silica particle that delivers a wide elution window and combined high retention for polar and nonpolar analytes. This new phase is 100 percent aqueous-stable due to a polar-modifi ed surface, providing fl exibility in solvent and gradient system selection needed to achieve desired polar/non polar analyte separation. The Luna Omega Polar C18 is offered in a high-performance 1.6µm particle for UHPLC instruments as well as a low-pressure 5µm particle for direct scalability to analytical HPLC or preparative work. The 5µm particle is available in Phenomenex’s patented Axia-packed preparative columns. Phenomenex is also introducing the 100 percent aqueous-stable Luna Omega PS C18 that delivers two distinct separation mechanisms at the same time. The particle surface of the PS C18 contains a positive charge that facilitates greater acidic compound retention through ionic interaction, while the C18 ligand delivers general reversed-phase retention. This mixed-mode selectivity is a valuable tool for greater separation between mixtures of compounds that have varying functional groups, such as peptides, pesticides or metabolite profi les. Additionally, the positive surface charge encourages excellent basic compound peak shape through the ionic repulsion of these compound species. Luna Omega columns are well suited for a wide range of applications including drug discovery and development, food contaminant analysis, environmental testing, toxicology and clinical research. “Our Luna HPLC brand is one of the most recognized in the global chromatography industry, with a 20-year track record,” commented Simon Lomas, strategic marketing manager for Phenomenex. “The recent expansion of this column family with novel Luna Omega silica particle technology and mixed-mode polar stationary phases has enabled us to bring the Luna legacy to the UHPLC world.” Phenomenex Kinetex Core-Shell Technology and Luna Omega columns together provide an ideal complementary UHPLC solution for greater effi ciency and separation power. With a growing range of valuable selectivities, this pairing of core-shell and fully porous UHPLC products affords customers a better choice for immediate gains in productivity, resolution and retention. Combining the Luna Omega Polar C18 with the previously released fully porous Luna Omega 1.6µm C18 and Kinetex 1.7µm core-shell phases further expands the options for UHPLC method development and improvement.

A New Benchmark in TN and TS Analysis of Organic Sample Matrices
Analytik Jena AG introduces an innovation in the fi eld of combustion-based analysers for the determination of Total Sulphur and Total Nitrogen in organic elemental analysis. The compEAct series offers compact, space-saving combustion systems for the fast and cost-effective analysis of liquids, gases and LPG samples.
“compEAct is the ultimate solution when it comes to high productivity and low operation costs in routine labs of refi neries, petrochemical and chemical industries – wherever space and time matter,” says Ulrich Krauss, CEO of Analytik Jena AG.
Based on a vertical furnace confi guration, combined with highly sensitive detection systems (HiPerSens®) and the powerful EAsy Protect safety and performance control system, compEAct ensures precise and reliable results. The degree of automation is adaptable to individual requirements – from manual handling of just a few samples a week, up to fully automated, unattended operation around-the-clock in high- throughput laboratories.
With its unbelievable small footprint of less than 1/3 m2 for a fully automated system, including control and data evaluation unit, requiring only one socket, the occupied lab-space is reduced to a minimum. An embedded controller operated via integrated, robust touchscreen provides unsurpassed simplicity of operation, even when working with thicker lab gloves. Thanks to its LAN- compatibility the system can easily be operated via external devices and allows fast on-line support for service or application issues if required.
The simplicity of the EAvolution software ensures smooth operation and reliable analysis without extensive user training. To ensure full standard compliance and to avoid the exceedance of legal limits, the software comes equipped with a library of ASTM compliant methods, calibration sequences and check functions.

New Spectroscopy Analyser Introduced at ArabLab 2017
At Arablab 2017, HTA introduced HT1000I, the new HTA spectroscopy autosampler, compatible with a wide range of spectroscopy applications, including ICP-OES,ICP-MS, FAAS and Flame Photometers.
Next generation electronics and up-to-date technologies make HT1000I the smartest autosampler in the spectroscopy market: automated calibration procedure, the management of unexpected events with automatic recovery and the minimisation of the electric consumption are all outstanding features of this innovative autosampler.
HT1000I design has been carefully studied to optimise the compactness (reducing the required bench space) and to minimise the transfer line towards the analyser. That can lead to faster cleaning step, lower Argon consumption and reduced wear of the analyser components as the contact time with the sample is kept on a minimum level.
The sample carousel is organised in six racks, each of which may run a different type of sample tubes for the highest fl exibility. Racks are removable in order to support off- instrument sample preparation and continuous sample feeding. Furthermore, the racks are polarised to simplify their positioning and avoid errors in loading samples.
HT1000I is equipped with a rinse station, where the sample probe is moved after the sample aspiration to be cleaned internally and externally by means of a dedicated washing pump for an effective fi ght against cross contamination.
HT1000I can be controlled by the most popular ICP and AAS software to allow easy sample processing. An integrated keypad is also included to permit direct sample loading, line priming and end-of-session washes.
With HT1000I, HTA becomes the unique benchmark for the automation of the analytical lab. After chromatography and sample preparation, in fact now HTA covers also atomic emission spectroscopy: all the analytical techniques can be automated by HTA autosamplers!
