JCT Expands Presence on the Asian Marketplace
Reform of EU Emissions Trading on the way: EU Chemical Industry Welcomes Positive Vote on EU ETS
In reaction to the recent vote on the reform of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), Cefi c welcomes the overall compromises and thanks the Parliament for managing to close the vote.
On February 15th 2017, MEPs voted against immediately increasing the ambition level beyond the Council. MEPs also abided by Commission proposals to make sure more carbon allowances are available to sectors most affected by global competition to offset the costs as they strive to slash emissions. Importantly, they rejected an unchecked carbon border tax proposal that would see imported products taxed with unknown impacts on trade and EU industries.
Said Marco Mensink, Cefi c Director General, “We appreciate the Parliament understood the need to safeguard suffi cient free emission rights – like most industry, we are up against fi erce global competition, and offsetting the cost of improving our environmental record will help us keep producing in Europe.”

In 1992 JCT Analysentechnik GmbH was established and in 2017 the company celebrates 25 years in business and expands their activities, particularly in Asia. The specialist for gas sampling systems, sample gas conditioning solutions and analysers for Total Hydrocarbon (THC) monitoring, JCT Analytical Technology has clear growth goals for this marketplace and takes a number of steps to secure its position for future growth:
JCT Analytical Technology (Nanjing) Co. Ltd is a new Joint Venture. With headquarters in Austria, the company has a year-long partner to serve the Chinese market with local consulting and technical expertise. JCT China is managed by Mr Wang Wei and works with a broad base of system integrators all over the country. “After fi ve years of continuous growth in China we now made the step to show our commitment to support our existing and future customers,” said Jameson Chang, the responsible regional manager of JCT.
In India JCT is starting 2017 with a fresh breeze and a manager with many years of experience. Mr Roland Zepeck, who has served Indian customers for more than 30 years, being responsible for major European and US suppliers in the fi eld of environmental monitoring and process control and joined JCT earlier this year to use his strong presence and knowledge about the needs and requirements of environmental engineers in India.
For many years JCT is present in the Asian market through a branch offi ce in Singapore which is headed by Mr Jameson Chang. Customers of JCT are integrators of CEMS (Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems) and Process Control solutions in countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia. Partners in China and India have been served from the branch offi ce in Singapore too.
Main products of JCT for Asia include gas sampling probes (high temp, high dust, Ex-zone) as well as sample gas lines (heated lines for demanding applications) or sample gas coolers and sample gas conditioning systems. In cooperation with a German manufacturer JCT recently introduced the JFID series of fl ame ionisation detectors for real time hydrocarbon measurement in industrial applications.

He added, “In the end Parliament made progress in improving the Commission proposal. Member states need to fi nd a way to safeguard jobs in all exposed industries and free up reserves for investment and innovation in Europe, for economic recovery and growth.”
The European Council now has work to do on important ETS design elements, for example aligning the ETS to the agreed 2014 Council guidelines. One key issue to still change in the Parliament proposal is to remove the discriminatory approach between sectors on the so called correction factor.

Endress+Hauser Acquires SensAction
Endress+Hauser has acquired SensAction AG, a manufacturer of innovative systems for measuring the concentration of liquids. With this move, the Switzerland-based Group intends to strengthen its quality measurement portfolio. SensAction will remain headquartered in Coburg, Germany and keep the current staff of 13 employees.
The managing directors of SensAction, Stefan Rothballer (left) and Michael Münch.
SensAction will operate as a division of the Endress+Hauser center of competence for fl ow measurement technology headquartered in
Reinach, Switzerland. “This innovative technology is an excellent fi t with our modern fl ow measurement portfolio,” says Dr Bernd-Josef Schäfer, Managing Director of Endress+Hauser Flowtec AG. “It allows us to further expand our range of products for measuring quality parameters.”
Already, Coriolis fl ow measurement devices from Endress+Hauser can determine not only mass fl ow, but density as well. Electromagnetic instruments are capable of measuring conductivity parallel to the volume fl ow. “These physical analysis parameters create direct value-add for the customer,” emphasises Bernd-Josef Schäfer. Endress+Hauser plans to integrate the SensAction instruments into its own program and open up new markets via the Group’s international sales structures. In addition, plans are in place to eventually combine the technology direct with Endress+Hauser fl ow instruments.
The systems from SensAction measure the concentration of liquids with the help of surface acoustic waves, which are high frequency sound waves whose behavior can be compared to seismic waves created by earthquakes. By analysing the transmission time and amplitude, the acoustic parameters of the liquid, such as sound wave velocity, impedance and density, can be measured in order to quickly and precisely determine the concentration. Because they contain no moving parts, the systems are maintenance-free and do not suffer from wear-and-tear.
Apart from developing and manufacturing concentration measurement systems, SensAction also offers supplementary services, such as software products that rely on a laboratory measurement to provide a high degree of accuracy and user-friendliness for the customers’ applications. The key fi elds of application for the SensAction instruments include concentration measurements for liquid process media.
The acquisition of SensAction will be effective retroactively from 1 January 2017. Both parties have agreed to not disclose the details of the transaction. Stefan Rothballer and Michael Münch, two of SensAction’s founders, will continue to manage the innovative company’s business.
