Business Support entrepreneurs@chamber Introducing the Chamber’s newest start-up members

Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce has launched a new start-up membership, designed to help new businesses get off the ground. The new package, aimed at companies that have been trading for less than a year, features all

the benefits of a standard membership as well as access to 11 half-day workshops. The start-up workshops offer expert advice on areas such as market research, marketing and

promotion, financial forecasting, raising finance, legal requirements and employing people, legal structures, pricing structures and trends, selling skills, networking and social media. A start-up membership is priced at £240 per year (including VAT) and organisations can pay

by quarterly direct debit. To find out more, call 0800 603 6650.

These are among the latest businesses to sign up to the start-up support programme: Birmingham tops

start-up league Birmingham is poised to be the city with the highest number of business start-ups outside London for the fourth year running, according to new figures. This is a great opportunity for Birmingham, as new businesses play a critical role in the future economic prosperity of the city and the wider region. In fact, the start-ups will help the Local

Enterprise Partnership achieve the targets in its Strategic Economic Plan for 2016 – 2030, two of which are the creation of 250,000 jobs by 2030 and growing the regional economy by £29bn. According to Anabela Ferreira, head of

new enterprise at Birmingham Chamber, getting the right support at the right time is crucial to business success. She said: “The Chamber is playing its part

in supporting new enterprises to ensure Birmingham business community continues to thrive. “In Summer 2016 we launched a membership support package which is designed specifically with start-ups in mind. “These are people who have the ideas, the

sector knowledge and the sheer enthusiasm and drive to take the big leap, but often lack key business skills or need a platform to promote their business to others. “The start-up membership provides members with access to training in financial forecasting, pricing, selling and networking skills, marketing, amongst others. Also part of our programme focuses on interacting with others in a business environment. “This has facilitated the creation of peer-

to-peer support amongst start-up members. “This is critical for all sorts of reasons, not

least that business relationships and sales are often made whilst networking. “With this in mind all our members, have

access to 50 free networking and training events, where they get to meet members from across other membership packages. This has already resulted in some useful contacts being made and business opportunities created.”
