In Brief

Karen Williams, Buddy Bag Foundation charity founder, has been given the Prime Minister’s Points of Light award for outstanding individual voluntary work. Karen set up the Buddy Bag Foundation –

the chosen charity of Future Faces Chamber of Commerce for the next 12 months - to support children that have been removed from traumatic domestic situations and placed into emergency accommodation. So far the foundation has packaged and

delivered 7,000 bags to children in refuge centres nationwide.

Future Faces has handed over a cheque for £5,412 to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity (QEHBC), after finishing a year of fund-raising for the organisation. The charity supports four of Birmingham’s

largest hospitals, including Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Harborne, and Birmingham Chest Clinic. Charity senior fundraiser Laura Power said:

“We’re incredibly grateful for the amazing fundraising efforts of the Future Faces fundraising team over the past year. The funds raised will go a long way in supporting patients.”

Awards open for business

Tickets have gone on sale for the Future Faces Annual Dinner and Awards, which will take place on 15 September at the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club at Edgbaston. The awards have seen a shake-up in the

various categories to ensure that they cover a wider range of sectors and more evenly reflect the industries in which members sit. A major new category, arts and culture, has

been introduced to reflect the importance of this sector in the city. Victoria Lineton, president of Future Faces,

said: “This year’s dinner promises to be bigger and better than ever before and will feature more sponsorship opportunities, more awards and even more young professionals taking part. “To ensure that we reflect the talents of the

wide range of young professionals that we have in our city we have broadened the existing award categories and introduced one specifically for arts and culture this year. “We have a growing arts scene in Birmingham,

and we want Future Faces to encourage this, particularly at a time of funding cuts. We should

be supporting this sector more than ever and one way we can help is to recognise the arts and culture in the city and help Birmingham stand out.” The eight awards categories for 2017 will be:

• Arts and culture • Sales, marketing and communications • Legal • Financial • Industry (covering engineering, construction, property, manufacturing)

• Technology and innovation • Entrepreneurship • Overall Future Face winner

Early bird tickets are now on sale and can be
