The managing director of National Express’ UK bus division, Peter Coates, is retiring after 20 years with the transport company. Peter joined National Express


from accountants Ernst & Young. He went on to become finance director of UK Bus in 1999, and then managing director in 2011. National Express Group chief


executive, Dean Finch, said: “Peter has led National Express’s UK Bus business with distinction, combining a passion for the bus business with a forensic understanding of its operations. “He has also been a much


appreciated colleague and friend. It has been a pleasure to work with Peter - everyone at National Express wishes him all the best for the future.”


The NEC has won its first international award after securing the 2017 UFI Operations and Services Award. UFI, the Global Association of


the Exhibition Industry, offers awards as a platform for sharing best practices and honouring outstanding activities within the exhibition industry, with the Operations and Services Award focusing on the best exhibition industry initiatives to enable a perfect customer journey to and in the venue. Competing against Messe,


Frankfurt and Suntec, the NEC was announced as the clear winner with 74 per cent of the votes at the UFI conference in Utrecht, Holland.


Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice has forged a new partnership with Park Regis Hotel. The four-star hotel in Five


Ways will be a corporate partner of the Birmingham-based hospice and will be holding exclusive fundraising events throughout the year. The hospice, which is based


on Raddlebarn Road, needs to raise £8mi each year to provide vital care and support to individuals and families in Birmingham and Sandwell who are living with terminal illness. Charlotte Anson, corporate


partnerships manager, said: “We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Park Regis. Their support will help us reach even more people who need end of life care and support.”

An ambitious housing project which aims to provide 395 new homes on three disused sites has got off the ground following a £58m investment by Midland Heart and developer Westleigh Homes. The partnership will bring much-needed new homes


to Leicester across a mix of tenures, including private sale, market rent through Cygnet Property


Management, a subsidiary of Midland Heart and importantly homes for affordable rent. The £58m investment, funded through Midland Heart


Private Finance with a contribution of £4.9M HCA grant of for the affordable housing elements, will see three separate sites across the city being bought back into use.


Craig Errington, group chief executive of Chamber patrons Wesleyan, has been appointed chairman of the Financial Conduct Authority’s Smaller Business Practitioner Panel. The panel represents the


interests of small and medium- sized financial services providers across a range of regulated activities and provides input to the FCA. As chair, Craig will also become


an ex-officio member of the FCA Practitioner Panel, which helps to provide a coordinated industry view to the regulator. He’ll ensure the perspective of smaller firms is considered throughout any deliberations. Craig, who has been a member


of the FCA Smaller Business Practitioner Panel since May 2013, said: “The panel plays an important
