Growth Hub launches new diagnostic workshops

Greater Birmingham & Solihull LEP’s Growth Hub is launching free, fortnightly, four hour diagnostic workshop sessions which are available to all small to medium enterprises (SMEs) or sole traders operating in the Greater Birmingham, Solihull or South Staffordshire post code areas. The objectives of these sessions will be to

help businesses focus on what they need to grow their business with the outcome being free ongoing signposting support from a Growth Hub advisor. The sessions will be led by an expert business

advisor but are intended to be interactive, so businesses will also be able to share their aspirations and challenges with others taking part.

The sessions will include: • Business planning, including structuring and effectively using a business plan;

• Setting business objectives and motivating people;

• Marketing, including planning, monitoring and looking at competition;

• Access to finance and acquiring capital equipment;

• Skills and training looking at current and future needs;

• Completion of a diagnostic form which allows tailored signposting to specialist support

Thanks to initiatives such as this, the Growth Hub, which is managed by the Chamber and its partners Aston University and Birmingham City University, has now helped create some 800 jobs in the region. The hub, part of a national network, provides

a single point of access for business support across the region, has also helped more than 700 businesses with intensive assistance, analysing their needs in detail and referring them on to business support, on occasions up to five separate providers. The hub has also dealt with more than 6,000 enquiries – and all of this has been achieved in just eighteen months. Chamber chief operating officer Russell Jeans

said: “The GBSLEP Growth Hub puts the customer first by assisting them to connect, by

delivering co-ordinated support and by hand- holding them through long term growth. “Growth Hub staff are the glue, the trusted

advisors that help bind these growth enabling agencies together in a seamless offer and direct them towards genuine co-ordinated growth prospects. “Without doubt, the performance to date has

demonstrated the very significant and cost effective impact of this key initiative.”
