Campaign hailed a huge success


A Chamber campaign to help businesses achieve better results by managing their employees more effectively has been hailed a huge success. The campaign, Growth Through


People, saw the Chamber and its partners deliver 11 key events on topics related to people management within businesses. The campaign also included a


series of blog posts written by key stakeholders and experts. Chamber chief executive Paul


Faulkner said: “The Growth Through People campaign has been a fantastic opportunity to engage with GBCC patrons, members, and an array of partners on a topic which affects businesses each and every day. “People are at the heart of all


organisations, as they create the products and deliver the services that make businesses tick, so effectively managing them is paramount to growth and success. “Throughout the campaign it has


been fantastic to see the energy and interest with which our activity been met and we will certainly be


looking to build on the momentum we have gathered moving forward.” Diane Rance, director at Creating


Value with People, who worked on the campaign with the Chamber, said: “Over a long career I’ve seen first-hand the bottom line impact professional People Management processes and practices can have including increased staff retention, and therefore reduced recruitment and training costs, increased attendance levels and effective teamwork meaning greater efficiencies and effectiveness. “These issues lay at the heart of


the Growth Through People campaign and it was great to be able to form partnerships with the likes of Acas, the GBSLEP Growth Hub, the CIPD and many Chamber patrons and members to deliver this month of activities. I am particularly excited to continue to work with local businesses on these important topics.” Partners involved in the campaign included: GBSLEP Growth Hub, Acas and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Birmingham’s biggest arts festival, Birmingham Weekender, will return this September. The award-winning event promises a packed weekend of free


outdoor theatre, music, art installations and performance across the city-centre, from Broad Street to Digbeth. The festival will feature well-known local arts organisations and


invited international artists, including a number of significant new commissions. The first event, Birmingham Weekender 2015, attracted an estimated


audience of 150,000 people, who enjoyed 200 performances, including seven new commissions, over three days. Visitor surveys from Birmingham Weekender 2015 indicated that


some 46 per cent of visitors came from outside of the city, helping to establish Birmingham as a major cultural visitor attraction. The event is organised by Culture Central, the cultural development agency for Birmingham.
