Get fit at Women in Business event

Burton Chamber’s next Women in Business is to take place on 7 March, at a new venue, The Mercure Newton Park, at Newton Solney, in South Derbyshire. The event will feature local fitness guru

Kathryn Williams, of Zestfit, who will share with guests the importance of exercise and healthy nutrition. She said: “I am thrilled to have been

High praise for community helper

A major provider of affordable homes in East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire has been praised for its efforts in boosting local communities. Trent & Dove, which provides around 6,000

affordable homes in the region, has been commended by Chamber director Chris Plant for its ‘passion and commitment’ in helping its residents improve their lives. Chris saw first-hand the difference the

organisation makes, during a visit to a care service run by Trent & Dove that saves the NHS £500,000 every year, a thriving rural housing development and an allotment at an anti-social behaviour initiative which now grows food to donate to charity. The morning was spent with members of the

Kingfisher Project in Winshill, a volunteer group and partners of Trent & Dove. Their tenant-led participation enabled them to win the UK’s highest award for voluntary services – the Queen’s Award – in 2016. Later in the day Chris visited Firstcall 24/7,

Trent & Dove’s emergency assistance for 2,000 older and vulnerable people in the region. Using the service enables patients to be discharged

‘Some of the housing association stock is the best I have seen’

earlier due to the aftercare support, saving the NHS more than £500,000. He was also given a tour of a 24-home rural

development in Repton where the team demonstrated how the needs of residents looking to rent or get on the housing ladder are met. He said: “Such a high level of resident

engagement demonstrates that the services Trent & Dove deliver count for much more than just bricks and mortar. Some of the housing association stock is the best I have seen, you cannot identify between private ownership and rental properties on the estates. “The future is bright for the community projects

team and Firstcall 24/7. I felt lucky to spend time with such a passionate group of people who are determined to improve the lives of others.” Ursula Bennion, chief executive of Trent & Dove,

said: “Both we and the Chamber of Commerce share a common aim of helping the local community and looking after its best interests.”

Return of Let’s Do Business

Chambers of Commerce serving the Staffordshire business community have launched their flagship ‘Let’s Do Business’ event. This will be staged once again at Uttoxeter

Racecourse, on 29 June. ‘Let’s Do Business’ is an annual county-wide

exhibition that will see members from all chambers across Staffordshire come together to network and attend business growth seminars. Chris Plant, director at Greater Birmingham Chambers, said networking was one of the most effective ways to promote and build business and the Uttoxeter event was ‘a must’ for any company looking to connect and share information with new and existing contacts.

Exhibitors will be able to raise the profile of

their business and meet the hundreds of visitors attending to exhibition. Chris said: “Staffordshire is spectacularly

successful at encouraging and supporting new and existing businesses to succeed. ‘Let’s Do Business’ is a great way to showcase the variety of businesses that Staffordshire has to offer. “Exhibition stands sold out three months prior

to the event last year and we have received a huge number of enquiries all ready for 2017. We are confident of attracting over 1,000 visitors.” The event is free to attend, and exhibition

stands are available to Chamber members from £199+VAT.

Keeping fit: Kathryn Williams

March 2017 CHAMBERLINK 43

asked to speak to the ladies at Women in Business to help them make little changes during 2017, to improve their body and mind, which I believe will ultimately make them more successful in business. “I am also very excited to be expanding

my own business by opening my first boutique training studio near Derby shortly, so keeping healthy is essential for me to do good business.” Claire Twells, from Women in Business

programme partner Smith Partnership Solicitors, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing Women in Business to a new venue for 2017 to celebrate our third year; offering a new experience for our ladies in a beautiful rural setting with homemade refreshments and an exciting programme of four speakers for the year ahead. “Everyone is getting back into a normal

routine again now after Christmas, however exercise is always hard to fit in if you are working and looking after a home and family. Our fitness guru Kathryn is an inspiration to women across the region having created bespoke fitness programmes for 22 years. “Kathryn is a mum of two and a business

owner, so she understands the stresses everyone faces on a day to day basis. We hope the ladies enjoy the business networking opportunity and find some new ways to improve their health and fitness in 2017.” The event starts at 11.30am, and is priced

at £23, which includes a buffet lunch. For more information, go to

www.greaterbirminghamchambers.com/net working-events, or email events@burton- chamber.com, or call 08450 710191. Other Women in Business events

during 2017 are set for 6 July, 12 October and 5 December.
