Excel launches new boat

Sutton Coldfield-based Excel Boats - a leading international supplier of rigid and inflatable boats - has announced the launch of the new Virago range. The new 2017 Virago model range

features an aluminium hull and deck for added strength and performance. A new console with high-spec trim

and additional seating options will make heads turn while offering versatile options for users. Being compact, lightweight and low

maintenance, new models are available in sizes from 2.9 to 4.2 metres and will set a new standard for superyacht tenders and water sports enthusiasts and will be offered exclusively through Excel’s premium dealer network. The range was proudly unveiled at the 2017

London Boat Show as part of a 21 boat displays to visitors. Excel Boats owner Terry Wright believes the

new range will set a new standard in the RIB sector, while delivering an unforgettable experience on the water.

New boat: The Virago He said: “The new models are a result of first

hand feedback from our customers combined with expert knowledge from our professional design team. “The RIBs are light enough to manoeuvre with

confidence with larger models able to hold up to four people for versatile use.” Excel Boats was established in 2004 and has

a distribution network on the UK’s south coast. All boats supplied over 2.5m long are fully compliant CE category ‘C’ for inshore sea use.

Businesses urged to back charity sleep out

Sutton Coldfield’s YMCA is staging its annual Sleep Easy event with the aim of attracting more than 100 local business people to help raise awareness and funds. A Sleep Easy event is a

sponsored sleep-out in the open on one of the coldest nights of the year, with participants having only a cardboard box for protection. The aim is to raise money

and highlight the issue of youth homelessness. Alan Burrows from YMCA Sutton Coldfield said: “We already have 35

people signed up and would love to get this number to 100. There will be food in the evening, entertainment and hot drinks available during the night and we provide the cardboard boxes. “Some people perhaps don’t think that Sutton Coldfield has a homeless

problem but it’s staggering how many people are either sleeping rough or sofa surfing. Our 2015 Sleep Easy certainly proved this. A homeless lady approached our team at the event and because we had a team from the Ramada hotel sleeping out they were able to offer her a room for the night.” Funds raised from this year’s events will help YMCA Sutton Coldfield to

continue to fund their work in the local community which includes several projects – from accommodation services to support for young carers and much more. The Sleep Easy is on Friday 31 March at The Gracechurch Centre in

Sutton Coldfield. For information contact Alan Burrows on alanburrows@ymcasc.org.uk

become Sutton Chamber’s chosen charity for the next year – succeeding Our Place Community Hub. The deadline for applications is 24 March,

with the shortlist announced on 3 April. The shortlisted charities will each get a

three-minute slot to tell an audience about their work during an event at Sutton Coldfield’s Ramada Hotel (pictured right) on Tuesday 25 April. The audience

will then cast their votes on which charity they would like to see the Sutton Coldfield Chamber support. A total of £1,723 was raised at the Sutton

Coldfield and Lichfield & Tamworth Chambers’ inaugural awards dinner at The Belfry last month. The final total is to be split between Our

Place Community Hub, Lichfield Chamber’s chosen charity St Giles Hospice and Tamworth’s Wellbeing Cancer Support Centre.
