Small Operators Benefit from New Tupelo Market Incentive Programs
By Christopher Schriever The Tupelo Furniture Market has implement- ed incentives and special programming aimed specifically at benefiting small and mid-sized operators. Furniture retailers of all sizes attend the Tupelo Market each year searching for new, cutting edge products and services that will al- low them to increase traffic, revenues and profit margins. This year the market has expanded its Buyer Rewards Initiative to include the Small Operator Program, which provides smaller re- tailers with exciting new buying opportunities. “Convincing smaller operators that there are opportunities for them at any market has become a challenge,” said Kevin Seddon, Tupelo Market President. “So we’ve worked
diligently to convince exhibiting companies to reduce or drop minimum order requirements, offer special close-out opportunities or in- troduce other incentives that would benefit the smaller operator. In addition, we have re- cruited companies that act as distributors for larger manufacturers. These companies offer a wide-range of products with quantities and pricing that appeal to smaller retailers.” Many companies showing in Tupelo wel- come small quantity and partial truck load or- ders, giving smaller operators the ability to of- fer more diversity of brands and styles in their showrooms. This, in turn, helps them attract new customers and gives past customers a reason to return.
While every program introduced in the Buyer
Awards Initiative has been designed to increase opportunities for all retailers, these programs will benefit small and mid-sized retailers the most. In addition to the Small Operator Program, these retailers can take advantage of a number of dif- ferent programs such as the Super Early Bird Package, Show Your Badge Program, Hosted Buyer Program, Regional Buyer Shuttles, Buyer and Seller “Matchmaker” Initiative, “Lunch and Learn” Sessions, TOS Club Membership, TFM Show Dollars and the TFM Weekend Pass.
