Micro-blading Interview with Amanda Lowe by Dharma Tawing

In today’s increasingly fast-paced world, it can be hard work looking our best all the time. Juggling a career with home life is tough and our appearance isn’t always a priority. That’s why each year thousands of women and men opt for permanent cosmetic enhancements as a timesaving way to look their best with minimum effort.
No longer considered a treatment just for the rich and famous, men and women of all backgrounds and social standing are opting for permanent makeup procedures as a way to save time and in many cases boost confidence. You’d be forgiven for not being too familiar with how micro-blading works. We may have embraced all manner of cosmetic procedures that require the use of a needle, but so far, micro-blading seems to have slipped under the radar. Much like a tattoo, a blade made of individual needles implants pigment, rather than ink, onto the very shallow layer beneath the skin. Modern pigments fade gradually over time but this has not always been the case and perhaps accounts for the image problem
the treatment seems to have.
Recently I had the opportunity to spend some time with Amanda Lowe of Elegance Cosmetic Tattooing. Amanda trained with the highly acclaimed Phibrows academy and was one of their first qualified micro-bladers in Spain since then she has built a reputation as one of the top micro-bladers in the country. Amanda sees the benefits this treatment can make, but agrees that in the past, cosmetic tattooing for eyebrows has been seen to be limited to dark, block brows. It absolutely has an image problem, she says, but it’s getting better. Unfortunately there are still women walking around with terribly obvious tattooed eyebrows, which is a real shame.
Indeed semi-permanent make-up has come a long way over the years, from heavy and obvious, to one that aims to look as natural as possible. Amanda is arguably one of the top micro-bladers in Spain and is constantly raising the standard of work. It doesn’t look unnatural…however you must go to someone good. I trained with Branko Babic and have since followed up with a master class at his academy in Serbia. It takes time and practice to create a natural looking and very precise technique to enhance the features. A micro-blade can produce much more defined results than a brush or pencil. For instance, you could pencil in the eyebrows, however I can recreate individual hairs so that they blend in seamlessly with natural hairs.
Amanda treats women who have lost their eyebrows due to age, over-plucking or from chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and when asked what she enjoys most about the job she replied, The feel good factor you get when you watch someone’s face light up after his or her treatment is just amazing! When I work with alopecia sufferers or people who have lost their hair through radiation treatments, there are normally lots of tears from both of us at the end of the treatments, and to be able to give someone their confidence back is such an honour. There are increasingly more therapists learning and offering this technique, but Amanda has still retained her position as one of the leading micro-bladers in Spain she does this by continuously learning and staying up to date with the latest techniques and putting the needs of her customers first. My desire is to always learn more, continuously develop my skills and share this knowledge with other therapists. I am not precious and love to talk about my work and what I have learned from the various courses I have attended over the years. I also own my own spa which means my customers have the security of always being able to contact me and put any worries they may have to rest. This is a big decision and so I also offer FREE consultations to anyone interested
