comes from Ian Lockwood, a founding director of a Nottingham- based digital agency specialising in online marketing and web design and also an eBusiness Club trainer. He will discuss how the world of
search engines continues to evolve and the importance of keeping up-to-speed with developments. These presentations are free to attend and will be
delivered from the main stage in the Manufacturing and Engineering zone. Jon Egley, Manager of the Chamber’s eBusiness Club,
said: “It is essential that businesses understand and can utilise the latest online technologies both to protect and promote themselves.” The Chamber is a headline sponsor of this year’s Love Business expo.
Major cyber crime research launched
A major research programme has been launched to explore the impact of cyber crime on small and medium-sized businesses in the East Midlands. The two-year initiative will be led
by researchers from De Montfort University’s Psychology Department as part of the East Midlands Police Academic Partnership (EMPAC) framework. The consortium, which includes
the Chamber, East Midlands Police and local cyber security experts, will explore how risky behaviours by employees can impact attitudes towards cyber crime. It is hoped that a better

understanding of such information will help businesses and police to develop better methods of protection against cyber crime and preventing future attacks, as well as
giving SMEs a better awareness of current threats and issues. The project started last month and
will ultimately support firms in providing better training for
employees, along with boosting their understanding of the types of cyber crimes currently being committed. It is hoped the research will also
lead to greater collaboration between academia, business and law enforcement to help prevent future attacks. Jon Egley, Manager of the Chamber’s eBusiness Club, said: “Cyber crime is a huge and rapidly growing threat to firms of all sizes, which makes awareness of it an urgent priority. “This research is a key piece of
work which the Chamber is delighted to be involved in and support.”
