class. However, like most business leaders, there are days when this simply does not seem to be enough. Sometimes, the world doesn’t seem big enough for the many companies operating in the UK.


Building a team up from 50 employees to 150 employees is a challenge, much like upping production to make thousands of parts a week is a challenge, but the only way to grow is to be challenged technically and mentally and prove you can step up to these opportunities. Time and time again, we’re faced with the realisation that we


need new, braver customers, those that can share the risk and have the vision to help the SME community. Luckily, these challenges are being addressed across many market sectors. Following the examples set in Europe and beyond, UK industries are now finally turning to universities for help. They’re also looking at what support is on offer in terms of research and development and more importantly, having found help, these companies are actually utilising the support systems that are on offer. Therefore the biggest advances the technology industry in


the East Midlands will see in 2016 is a growing belief in the SME community, to turn this confidence in the industry into momentum which will, in turn, lead to growth. As long as original equipment (OE) customers do not


extinguish this enthusiasm, the message to large OE manufacturers like Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls-Royce, BAE and Bombardier and smaller companies alike, is very clear and very simple: open your doors to new enthusiastic suppliers of the future, in turn, these suppliers will unlock opportunity.
