Bulletin advises on new Insurance Act

JLT Specialty has launched an advice bulletin to help companies understand the likely impact of the Insurance Act 2015. When it comes into effect on 12

August 2016, the Act will govern all business contracts of insurance, reinsurance and retrocession in England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Sally Swann, Head of the

Midlands Region for insurance broking and risk management advisers JLT Specialty, said: “The Act is the first significant change since the Marine Insurance Act 1906. “It will bring about substantial

changes to the way in which both insured and insurers arrange insurance and on the role of the insurance broker acting for a client.”

over 1,000 calls related to bullying and harassment over the year to November 2015. Some callers reported that

workplace bullying caused them to self-harm or consider suicide. Acas Area Director, Kate

Nowicki, said: "It is advisable for East Midlands workplaces to look at how they deal with bullying as our research reveals that it is increasing and is more likely to be

found in organisations that have poor workplace climates where this type of behaviour can become institutionalised. "Businesses in the

East Midlands should be taking workplace bullying very seriously as the annual economic impact of bullying- related absences, staff turnover and lost productivity is estimated to be almost £18bn. "Our report has

a set of recommendations that East Midlands businesses may find useful to help prevent and deal with workplace bullying." Calls to the Acas helpline around bullying revealed:
