SECTION SPONSOR MARKET OPPORTUNITIES OPEN FOR BUSINESS

With a ready-made infrastructure, abundant natural resources and a comprehensive package of service sector support, North Tyneside is an ideal location for the offshore renewable industry.

The Borough and the surrounding area on the North Bank of the River Tyne, is already home to a broad range of major companies in the energy sector including Siemens, AIS, Maersk, OGN, SMD, WD Close and Barrier Group.

TRANSFORMING THE FORMER SWAN HUNTER SHIPYARD In order to enhance the Borough’s existing array of industrial sites catering for river related activities, North Tyneside Council and its development partner, Kier, are currently transforming Swan's – the former Swan Hunter shipyard in Wallsend.

Once complete, the site will become a state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing hub for companies specialising in renewable energy and offshore industries.

STRATEGICALLY SIGNIFICANT Identified as ‘strategically significant’ in the ongoing regeneration of the North East, this 13 hectare site will include bespoke high- tech industrial units and office space, a fully operational 380m quay and heavy-load lay down areas together with all the associated facilities and infrastructure needed to cater for the demands of its target industries.

With easy access to the North Sea, the location is ideal to support the growing offshore industry and attract major inward investment to the area, creating hundreds of construction and high-tech skilled jobs in the process.

CENTRE FOR INNOVATION

As part of its plans to redevelop the Swan's site, North Tyneside Council is also opening the Centre for Innovation, a recently refurbished business centre providing flexible accommodation to cater for small and medium-sized businesses in the renewable energy and marine sectors.

The centre has a total of 10 units for rent at very competitive rates, ranging in size from 17 to 242 sq m. Other facilities include a modern reception area, meeting rooms and kitchen facilities.

ENTERPRISE ZONE BENEFITS As an Enterprise Zone, businesses locating to Swan's and the Centre for Innovation by 2018 can benefit from a range of additional incentives including up to five years’ business rate relief and a simplified planning scheme making development and growth quicker and easier for investors.
