marine service

As a North East of England engineering organisation operating from its river front fabrication and machine shop setting, Tyne and Wear Marine Ltd (TWM) offers a complete marine service.

Numerous projects in ports, harbours and shipyards in the North of England and across the UK are underway utilising the company’s designed, manufactured and award winning patent pending equipment and method for testing SWL of bollards. Developed as part of a prior project leading to the launch of a TWM subsidiary company; Bollard Load Testing Ltd.

BOLLARD SAFE WORKING Research demonstrated that there was nothing available to practically and cost effectively meet the need of ensuring the safe working load of a bollard. Most unusual from a health and safety perspective, bollard load testing had little or no emphasis as part of safe practice when mooring vessels.

BLT Ltd is now seeking to raise the profile of testing bollard SWL where the consequences of failure are being

reported more regularly, (3 in November 2015), leading to extensive financial cost through damage to quays and vessels and more importantly, can lead to injury and death.

INCREASING AWARENESS As awareness is increasing that there is now something to meet the need the demand for service has expanded across the UK. Projects include manufacturing the equipment and training service contractors internationally as BLT is generating global interest, where in some countries they are working toward it being a legal requirement.

BLT was recognised and won an innovation award for the marine, civil engineering and construction category at Seawork June 2015 International Exhibition and was runner up in October 2015 for Mechanical Product of the Year at the British Engineering Excellence Awards.
