MET MASTS

PIONEERING WIND ENERGY PORTAL

My next guest company may need little introduction, as their heritage and reputation is as old as the clean tech industry itself. Dulas is a global organisation which has been at the forefront of energy engineering innovation for over three decades. But as we’ll learn, success combines experience with continuous innovation and a forward thinking mind-set.

The company is wholly committed to providing quality goods, technical and engineering services. They offer a complete package of wind development services for supply chain consolidation and security, ultimately delivering the most profitable windfarms for their clients. Site finding, feasibility studies, EIA and planning application preparation, wind monitoring, data analysis, yield prediction, end of warranty inspections and discharge of planning conditions are all part of the Dulas service. With a portfolio of satisfied customers and a mission to inspire and deliver solutions that improve lives. We took some time to explore what lies behind the ongoing success of Dulas.

MORE ON MET MASTS Dulas pride themselves on being uniquely able to provide hardware installation into hostile environments (on and offshore) as well as providing the best standards in lifecycle monitoring and maintenance. So Dulas’ met mast services are designed to meet accurate and robust data requirements and uncompromising Health and Safety standards, but no less attention is paid to data

collection, reporting, cleaning and analysis. With the whole process implemented by one dynamic team, Dulas ensure that a client’s data is cared for under one roof from due diligence right through to initial installation. It is through attention to detail that they have earned their market leaders status.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING NEW…. I am delighted to find out more about the most recent innovation at Dulas, the aptly named Dulas Data Hub. Working with data technology specialists Visualwind, Dulas have implemented a data portal that connects clients directly with their mast data. I spoke with Peter Longbottom Operations Director of Visualwind who enlightens me further…

GLOBAL PICTURE

“The Dulas Data Hub allows developers to see a global picture of their whole portfolio in one easy view. There are many off-the-shelf data management products available which are fine in some cases, but the intricacies of wind data systems required an application specific solution.”

THE EARLY DAYS

“Since the first windfarms were built in the 1990’s, engineers have been accessing data by manually dialling in to met masts. As the number of masts increased, keeping track of issues at sites became a real challenge. Some years back, Dulas were among the first to implement automatic mast dialling. Today, data automation evolution continues as Dulas masts are programmed to automatically send their data to a central server as often as every minute using the latest in packet switch technology. It is the Dulas Data Hub that brings the benefits of this data automation to the end user. As soon as data lands from a remote mast, it is visible on the Dulas Data Hub both to Dulas engineers and to the client.
