CABLE MAINTENANCE & PROTECTION FEATURE SPONSOR

Cable Protection Unique Challenges

Cable protection has some unique challenges, especially where the cables are laid adjacent to monopiles of wind turbines where enhanced near-seabed velocities bring issues of severe scour as well as issues of stability for the cables.

WIND ENERGY INDUSTRY

Windfarm projects where scour and protection mattresses have been supplied by Pipeshield International are: Lincs OWF, Lynn Inner Dowsing, Gwynt Y Môr, Scroby Sands and Thanet.

PRODUCT SOLUTIONS

The company can provide a range of solutions for cable and scour protection which include concrete, bitumen and fronded mattresses, grout and rock bags.

They can also supply a lightweight rigid cover system for cable protection (seacult cover) for use in areas which require dropped object protection. The cover system is designed to permit rapid deployment of the units following on from the cable lay itself.

EFFICIENCY

In conjunction with the products supplied, the company has developed a number of systems to load, stack and transport and subsea store to permit greater efficiencies for offshore vessels.

Speed loaders and wet store frames are designed to permit multiple numbers of mattresses to be lifted at once enabling the installer to stack on board quickly and in turn overboard for wet storage for precise placement later in the campaign.

DEPLOYMENT SYSTEMS

Both systems incorporate a quick release mechanism that can be deployed by a simple lever action and for the subsea units the release system is operated by diver, ROV or remotely using a hydraulic activation system.

Wet store bases can also be deployed to form a level platform for retrieval of mattresses from the seabed. The frames can be adapted to include a grating to the base and sides to act as a basket for smaller objects to be retrieved safely.

Pipeshield International is a world leader in subsea pipeline and cable protection, is well known and has a highly reputable brand in the energy sector.

The company is a leading source of knowledge on pipeline/cable protection, scour prevention and protection within renewables.

GLOBAL REACH

Headquartered in Lowestoft, the company maintains manufacturing bases in England, Scotland, Norway and South East Asia, with project specific production experience in the Middle East, Canada, Caspian, Malta and South Africa.

CERTIFICATIONS

Pipeshield is approved to ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:2007 and is a supplier member to FPAL achieving the VERIFY status for its quality systems.
