MARKET OPPORTUNITIES SECTION SPONSOR
PROMOTING NORTH EAST ENGLAND’S OFFSHORE RENEWABLES SUPPLY CHAIN
Energi Coast, the North East of England’s renewables group, continues to champion the capabilities and innovation of the region’s supply chain, building strong links with leading developers and contractors.
SHOWCASING CAPABILITIES The group was formed to showcase the capabilities of the local supply chain and the region’s beneficial infrastructure and geography to support the construction, operation and maintenance of offshore windfarms in the North Sea. It has established excellent relationships within the industry to support investment in the region and the utilisation of the expertise that exists in the North East which has developed from other sectors including shipbuilding and oil and gas.
EVENTS
Most recently it hosted an event with DEME’s operating companies GeoSea, OWA and Tideway sponsored by Tees Valley Unlimited, the Local Enterprise Partnership for the Tees Valley. The event was designed to introduce the North East supply chain to the vast opportunities that will be created by the marine contractors in the future.
North East England is recognised as a key strategic location to service the offshore renewables market. Its geography on the East Coast of England makes it well-placed to serve the sector, which is supported by its exceptional infrastructure that includes first class transport links and commercial ports on the Tyne, Tees and Wear rivers as well as at Blyth.
The meeting followed on from an Energi Coast networking event with DONG Energy Wind Power, as part of the company’s continuing commitment to building relationships with the supply chain to support the delivery of its pipeline of projects in the UK offshore wind market.
Both of these events demonstrate how attractive the North East is to operators and contractors looking to invest in their supply chains and benefit from the broad skills and product base the area offers.
DENMARK VISIT
In addition, NOF Energy in conjunction with Energi Coast, is leading a market visit to Denmark in April 2016 which will introduce the North East supply chain to key contacts within the Danish offshore wind and oil and gas sector.
INNOVATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN
The region is home to an extremely innovative and sustainable supply chain, which has served the offshore wind sector for a number of years and continues to secure high profile projects. Companies including DeepOcean and JDR Cables have landed high profile projects at Race Bank, for example and continue to fly the flag for the North East and demonstrate the capabilities of the region’s supply chain.
ATTRACTIVE INVESTMENT PROPOSITION
Joanne Leng MBE, Deputy Chair of Energi Coast, said: “There is strong interest in the North East from operators and contractors, which demonstrates this region is an attractive investment proposition. Companies in the North East have continued to develop their capabilities through innovative, technology-led solutions that can support the efficient construction and operation of offshore windfarms and have an integral role in the future of the industry.”
